Reminder: you must enroll and select WN (Southwest) as your airline BEFORE making a reimbursable purchase. Click HERE to enroll and the wait several hours or even a day before making the purchase. (WN is the IATA code for Southwest Airlines. SW is the IATA code for Air Namibia. FL was the IATA code for AirTran Airways.) To purchase click here: https://www.southwest.com/gift-card/create-card.html Caution: Do NOT login to your Southwest Rapid Rewards account when making the purchase.

Caution: As of late July 2019, reports are that direct gift card purchases are no longer being reimbursed. What does appear to work is buying flight tickets less than $100, OR using gift cards to get the charged amount down to less than $100.

Apologies as I am new, but would it be possible to book a fully refundable (Anytime) far using the split gift card method and then get a refund after the credit posts?

Will delete my question if yes.

Depends on how much you like keeping your AmEx card.

Would the sub $100 ticket(s) need to be in the card holder name only or could two separate one way tickets be purchased with the card holder's card, one in card holder name and one in traveling companion name to trigger credit on both purchased tickets?

Passenger name should have no effect, because American Express' system is not reimbursing transactions that it classifies as "tickets".

I can confirm that name(s) do not matter.

Anyone have any DPs on flights or split fares with cc charge > $105 or $110? Also do travel funds and GCs have the same effect on the split fare charge? Thanks

I purchased 5 tickets for >$200 total on a single PNR. I applied GC to take the total to <$100. It charged the Amex ~$48 and ~$45 separately, listing a specific passenger for each. Not sure if applying a GC affected how the charges applied. 2 Amex reimbursements for those exact amounts appeared later in separate line items.

Using my AMEX Platinum Personal card:

8/9 - Purchased a flight for $103.98
8/9 - Purchased a flight for $103.98 (A seperate purchase/same flight)
8/12 - Meter moved to 0

No credit applied yet. All of the uncertainty of exactly what the sweet spot is, but I think my $103.98 pucrhase is the highest I have seen to move the meter or get credited.

Will update when I get credited!

Are these refundable flights? Trying to figure out how to make use of this credit if you don't actually plan to fly anywhere.

I believe only the Business Select and Anytime flights are refundable. The Wanna Get Away flights are only refundable within the first 24 hours after booking. If you wait after 24 hours, I think you only receive reusable funds.

Anyone feel free to correct me, but that is what my understanding is.
