Reminder: you must enroll and select Southwest as your airline BEFORE making a reimbursable purchase.
Some have suggested the need to wait several hours or even a day before making the purchase, but there are also several DPs that worked without waiting that long.

(BTW, you will often hear people refer to Southwest as WN. WN is the IATA code for Southwest Airlines. SW is the IATA code for Air Namibia.)

Caution: As of late July 2019, reports are that direct gift card purchases are no longer being reimbursed.
To purchase click here: https://www.southwest.com/gift-card/create-card.html Caution: Do NOT login to your Southwest Rapid Rewards account when making the purchase.

What does appear to work is buying flight tickets less than $100, OR using gift cards to get the charged amount down to less than $100.

Always read the last few pages to get up-to-date DPs.

Thank you for your sacrifice. make sure to use a split payment. Full payment has had less success as far as i can tell.

Not sure if this still works either, but I saw DPs elsewhere that SW flights under $100 were triggering the credit: frequentmiler.boardingarea.com/amex-airline-fee-reimbursements-still-works/

Tried this and posted in early June when I had $100 credit left on my Platinum:
6/4/19 - Purchased two flights for $48.98 and a third ticket with companion pass with $5.60 in taxes/fees
6/6/19 - Transactions posted
6/7/19 - Counter decreased from $100 to $0
6/8/19 - Credits posted ($48.98, $5.60, $45.42)

I don't think early June was in question. Later June is.

I have the Platinum personal card. Previously had AA has my designated airline until gift cards no longer worked with the credit. Was able to change my airline to Southwest even after the change period had ended. On June 10th I purchased a $200 Southwest gift card (not logged into rewards account). Up until now, no credit had been given and the online counter remains at $200. I just called customer service and stated I had pre-purchased multiple Group 1 boarding passes. They said I should receive my credit within 5 days. Will update then.

Yeah, I was just wondering if anyone else had DPs about full fare purchases less than $100 since the more recent posts were about split payments.

Figured it would be less messy if full fares still worked.

I literally bought four one ways that were $60 each and I bought a $200 gift card first because I thought that was the SAFER way to get reimbursed. And now I find out that if I had just bought them directly I probably would have been reimbursed... Argh!

It sounds as if the fares were purchased with the giftcard, but if the right American Express card was used to pay the $40 residual it might be reimbursed.

Prepurchased multiple Group 1 boarding passes? Is that covered by the Amex credit?

It should be, as they are practically "seat assignment fees".

I see... so that's basically like buying multiple "early bird check ins".

I see. You can also claim that some of those fees were a third bag, which are $75 apiece.

There's some risk, but it can't hurt to try.
