Reminder: you must enroll and select Southwest as your airline BEFORE making a reimbursable purchase.
Some have suggested the need to wait several hours or even a day before making the purchase, but there are also several DPs that worked without waiting that long.
(BTW, you will often hear people refer to Southwest as WN. WN is the IATA code for Southwest Airlines. SW is the IATA code for Air Namibia.)
Caution: As of late July 2019, reports are that direct gift card purchases are no longer being reimbursed.
To purchase click here: https://www.southwest.com/gift-card/create-card.html Caution: Do NOT login to your Southwest Rapid Rewards account when making the purchase.
What does appear to work is buying flight tickets less than $100, OR using gift cards to get the charged amount down to less than $100.
Always read the last few pages to get up-to-date DPs.

DP: Bought $100 SW GC on 1/12, received credit on 1/14. Even though the credit was dated 1/14, I didn't see it posted online until 1/15 though.

To purchase the giftcard, do we need to purchase through the app or it can be done through desktop? I also changed Delta to WN

"Thank you for selecting Southwest Airlines and AirTran Airways for your $200 Airline Fee Credit benefit. You will now receive up to $200 in statement credits each calendar year when incidental fees are charged by the airline to your selected Platinum Card Account."
I am interpreting that as meaning their system "knows" the choice, and I can go ahead. At a minimum, it provides compelling evidence if any discussion is needed.

Looking to purchase 3 tickets for $49 each. Is this "recommended" $100 amount per ticket or for the total purchase?
thanks...

As of 1/23 11pm PST, credit hasn't been posted...
But in my account, under "benefits," I see the following message:
You have exhausted the $200 Airline Fee Credit for this current year. The $200 Airline Fee Credit will be available to you again starting Jan 2018.

So do you still get the 5x points for the ticket purchase even if the amount is reimbursed? If no 5x points, then just purchasing the GC is probably safer.

As far as I know, that $103 ticket above was the most expensive I've see where it works. Try checking out separately for each ticket, or for 2 and then the third if you'd like. I've read $100 is the max in a few places. You could always try it and be the data point to learn from!
