Reminder: you must enroll and select Southwest as your airline BEFORE making a reimbursable purchase.
Some have suggested the need to wait several hours or even a day before making the purchase, but there are also several DPs that worked without waiting that long.
(BTW, you will often hear people refer to Southwest as WN. WN is the IATA code for Southwest Airlines. SW is the IATA code for Air Namibia.)
Caution: As of late July 2019, reports are that direct gift card purchases are no longer being reimbursed.
To purchase click here: https://www.southwest.com/gift-card/create-card.html Caution: Do NOT login to your Southwest Rapid Rewards account when making the purchase.
What does appear to work is buying flight tickets less than $100, OR using gift cards to get the charged amount down to less than $100.
Always read the last few pages to get up-to-date DPs.

Hi all, tried to find this in the thread but couldn't find this here. If I buy $200 gift card from Southwest after designating Southwest in Amex, I understand that I will get reimbursed for the amount. I also wanted to know if the $200 purchase will code as 5X MR points?
PS: never mind I did find that GC purchases do code as 5X MR.

hi everyone. I know that buying e-gift cards is the slam dunk way of redeeming for the credit at WN. Does anyone know if I purchase points on WN whether it'll code correctly and provide for reimbursement? I got a targeted offer for a 40% points bonus when I purchase a certain amount and I figure it's a good value for me to buy points instead of cards.

You would still come out ahead buying gift cards, and using them for flights. They charge you an insane markup for points vs what they are worth. Even giving you 40% bonus points still makes points more expensive than using a gift card to purchase a flight.

Not if you tell them it was a for a gift card as those are technically not reimbursable expenses. If you do call in, better get creative when characterizing the expense.
