Airline fee $250/$200/$100 reimbursement reports: WN (2011-2019)

Reminder: you must enroll and select Southwest as your airline BEFORE making a reimbursable purchase.
Some have suggested the need to wait several hours or even a day before making the purchase, but there are also several DPs that worked without waiting that long.

(BTW, you will often hear people refer to Southwest as WN. WN is the IATA code for Southwest Airlines. SW is the IATA code for Air Namibia.)

Caution: As of late July 2019, reports are that direct gift card purchases are no longer being reimbursed.
To purchase click here: https://www.southwest.com/gift-card/create-card.html Caution: Do NOT login to your Southwest Rapid Rewards account when making the purchase.

What does appear to work is buying flight tickets less than $100, OR using gift cards to get the charged amount down to less than $100.

Always read the last few pages to get up-to-date DPs.

Same question - did you go onto the AMEX website and select WN as your airline of choice prior to making the purchase?

I purchased WN GC on 7/2 seconds after I set WN as my choice, posted as 7/2 date. I don't see credit yet, but this morning, benefit page finally indicates that $100 airline credit was spent. So I believe credit will be posted in the next few days.

Worked

update. I registered with WN on 30 Jun, bought 01 JUL and posted 02 JUL and today is 07 JUL and the 200 dollars were reimbursed. It should still work everyone. Thanks for the help and replies and forgive my other erroneous posts.

Selected Southwest as my airline this morning. I noticed most people in this thread waited at least 1 day before buying the gift cards. Is there a reason for that, or is it ok to make the purchase on the same day?

Not that I know of. I just followed everyone else but I dont see an issue with doing it the same day.

Im not sure, all I know is a couple weeks ago for my platinum card I was reimbursed for 200 southwest gift card. I would guess so, at least for the $200 because its still American Express but it could be different.

The reimbursement process is identical for all American Express cards that have this benefit, only the amount is different. Look HERE in January for a report.

I selected southwest airlines waited a few days then bought a $50 dollar test one to make sure it worked.

It posted 7/23 and I have not gotten a credit yet. Ive seen really short turn around and some longer ones. Does it typical take more then 3 days?

Interestingly I just checked my benefits page to make sure that I selected southwest for the credit and it shows $50 being used on a meter of the $200 even though the credit has not been posted in my statements.

Not sure if anyone has mentioned this but make sure to check the benefit page and then the $200 credit as it looks to appear first there before the statement page although I will report later.
