Reminder: you must enroll and select Southwest as your airline BEFORE making a reimbursable purchase.
Some have suggested the need to wait several hours or even a day before making the purchase, but there are also several DPs that worked without waiting that long.

(BTW, you will often hear people refer to Southwest as WN. WN is the IATA code for Southwest Airlines. SW is the IATA code for Air Namibia.)

Caution: As of late July 2019, reports are that direct gift card purchases are no longer being reimbursed.
To purchase click here: https://www.southwest.com/gift-card/create-card.html Caution: Do NOT login to your Southwest Rapid Rewards account when making the purchase.

What does appear to work is buying flight tickets less than $100, OR using gift cards to get the charged amount down to less than $100.

Always read the last few pages to get up-to-date DPs.

Was there any time allowed between choosing the airline and buying the gc's? I think 24 hours was recommended...

No. Still holding my breath that I will see the credit since I didn't wait.

If I don't see the credit after 2 weeks, do you think I should call Amex or am I screwed?

Business Select and Gift Certificate

Selected Southwest (Via AmEx Website) on 10/23/14 (around 10AM)

Called Southwest on 10/23/14 (around 11AM) to upgrade two flights to Business Select $56.00 and $19.00

Purchased $100 Gift Certificate via SW website on 10/24/14 (11AM)

Received 3 credits on 11/03/14
- $100
- $56
- $19

Was not expecting business select credit.... but happy anyway.

Going to purchase a $25 Gift Certificate today.

Can't hurt to call. I wouldn't mention that it was for gc's.

Great news. My purchase for 2x $100 GC made immediately after selecting airline on 10/31 was credited on 11/10 automatically!

good to hear! I was going to go for two $100 GCs in 2015- did four $50 GCs only to find out that they only allow a MAX of four payment sources per transaction. ended up using three GCs and a CC to cover balance.

Welp. Think I screwed myself. I bought a $200 airline gift card two days ago. Could've sworn I had selected my airline beforehand, but today I realized it was still available to select, so I guess I never selected it? I went ahead and selected it today and got a verification email, which I did not get before. Anyone been in this position? I doubt they will credit the charge I made two days before selecting my airline.

Just chose my airline today and will see how this goes. For those saying they haven't seen a credit yet:

Please allow 2-4 weeks after the transaction for statement credits to appear on your account.
EDIT: Placed the order on Sun Nov 30 (1 day after choosing airline). I biffed it and did 2 $100 gift cards in one single transaction, which resulted in a $200 purchase on the card and two $100 gift cards in my email inbox.

I am pleased to report that the $200 credit appeared on Dec 5.

I am having trouble with this. I registered my airline on November 11, received the confirmation email, purchased 2 $100 Southwest gift cards the same day, and still have not received the credit. Today marks the 4-week point. Is anyone else having this problem? On my statement the document type is "SPD/AIR FREIGHT" and category is "Travel - Airline."

I paid for the global entry application on Nov 12 and that was credited on Nov 21. Is there any hope for me to call and try to get the credit even if it's a loophole?

Anybody know if the reimbursable fees (i.e. global entry + purchasing 2x $100 southwest gc's) counts towards minimum spend and/or awards points? btw just activated today.. i set my airline to southwest/airtrans and then about 10-20 minutes later, purchased 2x $100 gc's via two separate transactions (email flavor).

*update* sw vouchers + global entry paid for on dec 3 and reimbursed the morning of dec 8
