Reminder: you must enroll and select UA as your airline BEFORE making a reimbursable purchase (this includes MPX). Click HERE.

Caution: As of December 2016, it appears that American Express no longer reimburses MPX transactions.

Credits generally appear 3-4 days after making the transaction. No need to worry unless they don't appear after a week.

TravelBank
funds can only be used on United and United Express flights. Partner flights are not eligible.

Gift Registry and Gift Cards

The consensus is that United gift registry contributions will be reimbursed and gift card purchases will not. So
  1. Log into united.com
  2. Set up a gift registry for yourself
  3. Use the link in your gift registry web page to send an announcement to your email address. This better, faster, and more reliable than searching for your gift registry, especially if you have a common name. Even someone with an unusual surname like mre5765 has could not find his registry after creating it.
  4. Log out of united.com
  5. Follow the Make Contribution in your gift registry email
  6. Contribute using your Amex platinum card

There seems to be no downside to contributing in sub-200 dollar chunks since the gift registry creates a single pool of cash. However there are lots of reports of successful fee credits from a single $200 donation. Whether done as on $200 transaction or eight $25 transactions, the result is that one will have $200 in ones TravelBank.

PLEASE NOTE: When you establish a gift registry for the first time, it will take 24 hours before the funds in the registry are available to use toward payment of a flight.

Do I have to join the united.com Club ($25 annual fee) to use my TravelBank?

Apparently not.

Does spending TravelBank credit count towards PQD?

Yes-for revenue flights only
Airline Taxes on Award Tickets
Doesn't seem to work anymore; see post 179 http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/25297196-post179.html and #391
MPX (MileagePlus X)
It appears that this is no longer working. See this post: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/27589581-post1496.html.
Economy Plus fees
There are recent reports of this working on a per ticket basis. No recent report of an Economy Plus annual subscription being reimbursed.

Do the MPX charges post as United? Just want to make sure it'll work for the Amex Offers such as $50 off $300. TIA

Post as MPX - Amazon.com

But if you open the transaction it says: Airline - United.

MPX transactions do not earn 3X points on a Preferred Rewards Gold or Business Gold Rewards card.

Just did this with AMEX Plat (Not Biz)/MPX/$200 Amazon. Got the $200 Credit and it says 5x category but unsure if I'll actually get the 5x pts.

Glad to see this is still working at least for now..

American Express Offers are targeted, we all see a different mix. There was an offer reported in August requiring a $300 airline purchase. It was not specific to UA.

I recently purchased a $50 Cheesecake Factory GC through the MPX app. The charge posted as MPX Cheesecake Factory. Just testing to see if this type of charge would be credited. I already got 250 UAL miles, due to the 5miles/$1 multiplier. Will post follow up if/when credit occurs.

Purchased 2 x $100 Amazon on 10/20 through MPX app on my Platinum card.
Credit has not posted yet as of today, 10/27 .

And yes, I had United selected as my airline for the credit before the MPX purchases.

The transactions both posted as :

MILEAGEPLUS X
233 S WACKER DR
STE 430
CHICAGO
IL
60606-6462
UNITED STATES OF AMERICA (THE)
Additional Information: XXX WWW.UNITED.COMUNITED AIRLINES
Reference: XXX
Category: Travel - Airline

Passenger Name: XXX /MILEAGEPLUS X
Ticket Number:XXX
Document Type: SPECIAL SERVICE TICKET

I read that most people had the credits post within just a few business days - but it's been over a week . I know the fine print says it can post in up to 4 weeks, but I'm really wondering if anyone ever had it take that long ?

I have a dozen flights coming up before the end of the year on which I could really use a credit for baggage. Unfortunately, none of the airlines are on the Amex very short list of carriers that one can select for reimbursement . The airlines are Air France, Vietnam Airlines, VietJet, JetStar, China Eastern, Air Macau . Most of them are 1-way segments also, so a per-airline credit like the Amex one is really a very poor fit as I will not have $200 of incidentals on a single airline for sure even if I could select one foreign airline for incidentals. But as it is , unless the MPX purchase ends up getting reimbursement, it seems like I'm just not going to be able to utilize the Platinum $200 airline credit at all this year, and I not sure if I ever can in subsequent years either since I seldom fly domestic. Probably should just cancel the Platinum before 1 year mark given how restrictive this credit is and the duplication of many benefits with other cards that make the $450 fee hard to justify.
