$200 airline fee reimbursement reports: UA only. [2010 - 2016]

Reminder: you must enroll and select UA as your airline BEFORE making a reimbursable purchase (this includes MPX). Click HERE.

Caution: As of December 2016, it appears that American Express no longer reimburses MPX transactions.

Credits generally appear 3-4 days after making the transaction. No need to worry unless they don't appear after a week.

TravelBank
funds can only be used on United and United Express flights. Partner flights are not eligible.

Gift Registry and Gift Cards

The consensus is that United gift registry contributions will be reimbursed and gift card purchases will not. So
  1. Log into united.com
  2. Set up a gift registry for yourself
  3. Use the link in your gift registry web page to send an announcement to your email address. This better, faster, and more reliable than searching for your gift registry, especially if you have a common name. Even someone with an unusual surname like mre5765 has could not find his registry after creating it.
  4. Log out of united.com
  5. Follow the Make Contribution in your gift registry email
  6. Contribute using your Amex platinum card

There seems to be no downside to contributing in sub-200 dollar chunks since the gift registry creates a single pool of cash. However there are lots of reports of successful fee credits from a single $200 donation. Whether done as on $200 transaction or eight $25 transactions, the result is that one will have $200 in ones TravelBank.

PLEASE NOTE: When you establish a gift registry for the first time, it will take 24 hours before the funds in the registry are available to use toward payment of a flight.

Do I have to join the united.com Club ($25 annual fee) to use my TravelBank?

Apparently not.

Does spending TravelBank credit count towards PQD?

Yes-for revenue flights only

There are recent reports of this working on a per ticket basis. No recent report of an Economy Plus annual subscription being reimbursed.

Re $200 airline credit. Amex refund UAL WiFi?

Wondering if that's considered an included expense.

I can't seem to figure out if wifi purchases are billed by united or gogo; it seems to depend on the specific flight. If it's billed by United, it should work, but if it's by gogo it will not.

No the MPX app. I don't think you are able to buy Amazon GC through the shopping portal.

Data point:

Brought $30 Amazon voucher via the app on 18 May, credited on 21 May. Brought over $300 on the 19 May, still no sign of the partial credit and have not called Amex

Just made a phone call to AMEX regarding used airline credits, wanted to see what was left on plat and premier rewards. Was told I haven't used any in fact was told on plat hadn't even assigned an airline. The latter had definitely been done and I was pretty sure I'd used some of the credits using MPX on both. I questioned it and she told me it was true many times. Glitch in AMEX systems? She assigned United to plat and I just purchased $200 Amazon on plat and $100 on PRG, on MPX, wish me luck!

Question on reimbursement. If they were wrong and in fact I've used part of the benefit on one or both will I get reimbursed partially for the MPX charges or not at all? I thought it was probably the latter, that's why I called them to get confirmation of what's left. If I don't get reimbursed I will call as I made sure she put into the notes what she was saying.

As an aside, I tried to get MPX charges reimbursed with the Ritz Carlton Rewards visa, no go, they do not recognize as an airline fee which I was pretty sure would happen.

Using the MPX app, I purchased a $50, $50 and $100 Amazon gift card on May 26th and was credited on the 28th!

Thanks for the tip! I've received $300 in perks after two weeks of having my Platinum card.

1. select UA as airline on website
2. received confired email and download X app in 5 minutes
3. purchased 200 amazon GC on 5/27, reimbursement showed up this morning

I'm getting"your transaction cannot be completed at this time, please contact bla bla bla. Tried this from Android and iPhone, same error for the past 5 days since I downloaded the app. Anyone know a way around this?

See my post above...seems like you just have to wait it out. I'm on day 17 of errors, and still can not purchase. I have been trying every day, sometimes twice a day (morning and night). I did stop getting "error 126" but now I just get a generic error.

I'm thinking I will skip attempting to make a purchase for one day, and see if that helps.

Will keep updating here.

I've e-mailed United, they said the day count resets every time you use the app. They said not to use the app for 15 days and then try.
