Current offer (as of 7/1/16):
"A special offer for Ameriprise Clients: $0 introductory fee for the first year, then $550. Additional Cards can also be added for an introductory fee of $0 for the first year, then $175 for up to 3 Additional Platinum Cards. Earn an additional 5,000 Membership Rewards points for every $20,000 in eligible purchases on the Card, up to 30,000 additional points per year."

(In 2015 the offer included 25k MR points for $3,000 spend, with $450 annual fee waived.)

Is this card a different product than the normal personal Amex Platinum?
Yes, by all indications this card is treated differently. Multiple members have received the bonus after previously having a personal Platinum card. Members have also been able to use the travel credit on this card even after obtaining the travel credit on a personal Platinum in the same year. (Post 363)

Do authorized users have a fee?
The fee for additional users is waived for the first year. You can add authorized users at $0 when signing up or you can add them later by calling the number on the back of your card.

My decision is "in progress", what should I do?
Many users report that they received an "in progress" decision initially only to be approved within the next 48hrs with no additional communication (recon call). Click here to check status.

Does one need to be an Ameriprise customer to be approved for this card?
No, one does not have to be an Ameriprise customer in order to get approved for the card, although AMEX could technically enforce the "rule" in their terms and conditions and either cancel your card or convert it to a "regular" Platinum.

There are several reports in the thread of people who have applied more than once, and received the fee waiver each time. I do not think we yet have any reports from people who applied for this specific card and saw the "No Bonus" pop-up. That could be because the pop-up is new, or it could be because American Express does not treat the fee waiver as a bonus.

If they do not treat fee waiver as bonus then what is the bonus they are referring to?

Who are "they"? No one posting in this thread works for American Express, or has been denied a second fee waiver for this card. The recent discussion is an attempt to relate what we know about this card to other changes that American Express has made.

If one applied for this card and were to receive the "no bonus" pop-up, it is likely because AMEX created a one-size-fits-all pop-up to apply to any/all applications that meet their algorithm's criteria.

The fee waiver for this card is not a sign-up bonus, it's part of the T&C's that are applicable to the card.

Read the terms. It is a sign up bonus, but this card is not subject to the previous cardholder disqualification language. If it isn't in the terms of the offer, it doesn't apply.

Basic and Additional Card Annual Fees
Basic Platinum Card: $0 introductory fee for the first year; then $550. Additional Platinum Cards: $0 introductory fee for the first year; then $175 for up to three Additional Platinum Cards and $175 for each Additional Platinum Card after the first three, $0 for any Additional Gold cards. Foreign Transaction Fee: None.

Politely disagree. It's part of the fee structure in the terms (as your quote displays) which is not a sign-up bonus.

Is the Ameriprise AMEX platinum better or the AMEX plat from American Express better to have after first year when you don't take signup bonus or no annual fee into account?

Ameriprise version awards 5,000 bonus points per $20,000 spending, capped at some amount. Standard card does not have this feature.

Since this card is a zero first year annual fee, they are not legally allowed to approve you for the card, then not offer you that benefit. They could cancel your account, but they would not be allowed to charge you the annual fee within the first year, since the terms of applying for the card state zero annual fee for first 12 months.

Its a Fee, and cards are not allowed to change fees in the first 12 months.

I do not attach any special significance to the word bonus. American Express explicitly refers to the fee waiver as an introductory offer. I understand that they cannot approve the application and then impose a fee, but they can decline the application if their algorithm detects that you have had the card before. There is no indication that they currently choose to do this.
