The points, and the ability to transfer, will be preserved, provided he opened an "Everyday" card, and not the similarly named "Blue Cash Everyday" card.

Just called and ask for retention offer for my BRG, preferably a statement credit to offset annual fee. First offered $100 credit. But I asked for $150. Got the $150 credit approved. Impressed.

Two years ago at this time, after one year with the US personal platinum, I called and asked for retention and was offered 50,000 points or a $400 statement credit. I took the credit. They told me my spend was $65K. Last year at this time, I called and was offered nothing; but I kept the card. Spend was about $50K. The fee will post at the end of this month. I will see what they offer. I think the spend is again about $50K. If the offer is not good; I will downgrade.

It appears to be the "Amex EveryDay Credit Card", according to the welcome letter. The card itself doesn't indicate what type it is. It's clear, and the large square in the middle is silver. Looks similar to Blue cards, but on those, the square is blue. He will get 10K MR upon spending 1K. Below is excerpt from today's Chat with Valentin (I am "YOU" and he is "VALENTIN"):

YOU:
will I still be able to transfer the membership rewards to various airlines such as british air, after I close the Gold card?
VALENTIN:
I am so sorry, on the Amex EveryDay Card, there is no such option yet. On the Amex Everyday card..
VALENTIN:
You will be able to get 1 points per dollar
VALENTIN:
and 2 points per dollar for supermakets
YOU:
what can I do with the points?
VALENTIN:
Once you start earning, you can use points for award travel, merchandise, gift cards, and more atmembershiprewards.com, or right here within your online account.

That is the correct card. The agent is mistaken. ddallas has helpfully pointed you to an advertisement. Here are the official terms, with a list of cards which are excluded from transferring unless linked to the same Membership Rewards account as an eligible card. Note that Everyday is not mentioned:

https://rewards.americanexpress.com/...=footer-tandc#

Who can transfer points

Some Card Members have the option to transfer points into a participating frequent customer program account. The Cards listed below are not eligible to transfer points. All other American Express Cards are eligible.

Please note that this information only applies to Cards that aren't linked with others on the same program accounts. If you have a Card enrolled in Membership Rewards when you enroll another Card, the Cards will be linked to the same program account. If this happens, both Cards will be eligible for the benefits available to the Card with the greater benefits. For example, if you link a Blue Card to a program account with your Platinum Card, you will be eligible to transfer points that you've earned by spending with your Blue Card.

The following Cards are not eligible to transfer points:

Blue for Business® Credit Card
Blue for Students®
Blue from American Express
Business Management Account
Gold Optima® Card
Optima® Credit Card
Optima® Platinum Card®
Platinum Business Credit Card
The Platinum Credit Card
ZYNC® Card

If you are eligible to transfer points, you'll see this option listed in the Travel category on membershiprewards.com. The frequent customer program account that you transfer points into must be held by you or an Additional Card Member linked to your program account.

Should some start a retention bonus WIKI for this 2015 thread? Like the past threads? Or carry forward the past list?

I'd have taken the 40K in a heartbeat. Easily worth ~$1K if used wisely...

Thought about it long and hard but I just had a wedding we paid for 2 weeks ago so any money right now helps.

I rec'd the same offer today on my EVP. Will do the spend and then cancel within 60 days (as long as the points have posted after the $1K spend). Effectively $10 for 7500 MRs.

Edit: To clarify, my offer was spend $1K within 60 days to receive the additional 5K MR bonus.

I thought I'd post my experience with the EveryDay Preferred since there weren't too many data points yet. But it looks like two people beat me to it already!
