What steps did you have to go through to get the refund?

FWIW, my experience with the extended warranty was also good. Sony Vaio laptop battery would barely hold a charge after just about a year. Amex (Plat) told me to buy a new one and they credited me the amount of the purchase. It was a relatively painless process.

Blackberry
I had a blackberry pearl in the family that was out of the manufacturer's warranty. Due to a faulty keypad that could not survive salad dressing spills at restaurants and multiple lavatory dunks the phone could not be used. The family member responsible for the phone took a laissez faire attitude to it's care. We had it for 20 months. I used the Amex website to process the claim through my AMEX Costco True Earnings Card. I received an email they were reviewing the claim. A few weeks later there was a credit showing on the online statement. I received an email and a letter a few days later. In fact, they did not ask for the phone to be sent in to them.

You're probably thinking of when people tried to get price matches from Amex after the iphone went down in price. The warranty service definitely covers an iphone and there is no exclusion.

Platinum Warranty Coverage?
I thought it was my Amex Platinum that had some deal about an extended warranty coverage for merchandise purchased from retailers.
I bought a TiVo that crapped out after about 5 months. TiVo only has a 90 day warranty and Best Buy wants nothing to do with me. Anyone know if they offer a coverage program? I know they have the 90 day return policy, but im getting closer and closer to 6 months.

Yes, go here and submit:

Hurry though, as it doubles the 90 days, so you have 90 additional days from the end of the manufacturer's warranty.
Also, I think TIVO has a 1 year parts, so not sure how it will work with amex, might wanna call on it.

Does anyone know if the double warranty period with AMEX covers the exact same T&C as are covered by the original warranty. Specifically, if I buy an HD, 3D TV from BestBuy which includes a full one year warranty on parts and labor at no cost does the AMEX extension mean I get exactly the same T&C for a second year? Or does the AMEX extension only cover certain elements of the original T&C? In other words, are there differences between what an original warranty covers and what the additional AMEX warranty covers? (In this case with the above mentioned TV.)
