40% Transfer Bonus to British Airways [USA]

Good until 3/31/11. They've even changed the transfer ratios to 1,400 BA for 1,000 Amex, so you don't need to register or wait for the bonus miles. I prefer that method much more than Delta's "you get the bonus whenever we feel like it- sometimes one second later, sometimes 4 months, sometimes never".

Thanks to gleff for posting this on his blog!

A good oportunity to maximize miles, but is this for the USA only? I'm assuming so as I can't see any such offer when I log into the UK MR site.

I saw that too mia, but they've changed the transfer ratio to 1,400 BA per 1,000 Amex. Do you think that switches back to 1,000 somehow after you've done one transfer? I doubt it.

I performed two transfers at the 1,300 miles bonus and both worked flawlessly. This is a good deal.

I also was able to do this even though the terms said limit one transfer per account.

I'm a little confused by this....are you saying I could transfer (for example) 105,000 BA miles into 75,000 American Express Membership Rewards points....and then into 75,000 Continental/United miles?

This might be something worth consideration. While I would lament the loss of 30,000 BA miles, I put a far higher premium on Star Alliance miles than BA miles, especially in light of their fuel surcharges, more limited partner alliance, and non-stop labor unrest.

The transfer is from MR to BA, not vice versa.

So, to summarize:

100,000 AMEX points becomes 140,000 BA miles. And history indicates that you can perform the transaction more than once and still reap the rewards.

That is correct, 100,000 Amex points will transfer and become 140,000 BA miles. Now, can I use the BA miles on any partner?

My other question is, I have 100,000 points with American, is the anyway to combine my American miles with BA miles (after I transfer to BA from amex)?

economy flights

If you're into economy flights...

18,000 AMEX points transfer into 25,200 BA miles (enough for RT ticket on AA)
25,000 AMEX points transfer into 35,000 BA miles (enough for RT ticket on AA)

I priced a ticket from my home airport to Hawaii with tax only $5.

I hear you can also get to SouthAmerica for 29,000 AMEX (enough for RT ticket on AA or LAN?)

Yes, you can use BA miles on any BA partner carrier, including AA. But depending on the partner carrier and route, you might have to pay BA's hefty fuel surcharges.

No, you cannot transfer BA miles to the AAdvantage program, but both AA and BA offer one-way awards.

I received a pamphlet in the mail in the UK with this offer stated. However it looks like the bonus miles are awarded at the end of March.

The UK promo is different - ONLY for targetted people who get the brochure, expires 25 Feb and, as you say, the bonus goes on later.

Dedicated thread on the BA board.

If the poster's portfolio suited, an effective way forward might be to have miles with each of the schemes, and in that way he could do one ways out of each of the shemes and have enjoyed some element of uplift getting to the final mileage figure.
