has anyone successfully switched the credit card at checkin to a non-amex card on an fhr booking?

In my opinion and many other people Amex is worthless in Las Vegas. If you want service Franklin is your friend and his color is green. Not Black, Platinum, or gold. Good luck with your Amex perks.

I've asked a couple of times and never been able to get them to switch at check-in or even at check-out.

Well, worthless is a strong word. While you can certainly get far more value from a competent casino host, especially if you're a heavy gambler, IME FHR room rates are usually excellent. And non-gamblers will never get F&B comped, so getting your breakfasts and a meal (or spa credit, whatever) is better than nothing.

PALAZZO

Would a booking for a "Luxury Suite" at the 'Palazzo' mean an upgrade to a "Luxury View Suite"?

I've been very happy with my Amex FHR perks and rates over the years.

Encore Las Vegas

I am just back from a four night stay at Encore. I was there for a Thursday to Monday stay. I had booked an Encore Tower Suites king room using the 4th night free promotion. At check in I was informed, without asking, that I was upgraded to a Parlor Suite on the 8th floor facing North. Since I have been to Vegas many times, this was acceptable to me. I prefer being on the North side anyway since I do not want to hear the clubs all night long.

I used the spa credit at the Encore spa. The spa was nice, as everyone says, but the lady who did my massage was terrible. When I checked out I complained about the massage and my bill was reduced by 20% and the gratuity voided. I ended up paying only $41 after the reduction and FHR credit.

The $40 per day in breakfast credits were used each day for in room dining. Each day I ordered two of the "combo" meals that come with juice, coffee, and whatever food was part of the deal. Each day the total came to $88.63 with tax, delivery fee and gratuity. The entire amount was wiped out each day.

I did not use the 4pm check out but it was offered when I checked in.

We will be staying at TheHotel over Labor Day weekend. Has anyone had success using the $40 credit for breakfast with room service?

That's correct. I just left there and that's exactly what I received. Just to say, I won't book there again, I can handle the crowd.

Mandarin Oriental

Great stay at the Mandarin Oriental.

4 nights, last night free.
Breakfast benefit could be used on all breakfast items, including room service; for room service, had to pay service charge and delivery charge separately.

Since this was my 5th stay there, they added a $50 food and beverage credit.

Didn't use the $100 spa credit. My previous favorite use (just getting a spa suite for an hour or two) is less usable now that they charge $100 per half hour rather than (I think) $110 or so/hour, which is what it used to be.

Thanks guys.

So does that mean a booking for a 'view luxury suit' mean an upgrade to a 'Fortune Suit'?

Just got back from a 3 night stay at the Wynn. I have a Centurion and the other couple that met us booked with a Platinum. Both of us booked Tower Suites at the Wynn........and both of us got upgraded to a parlor suite.
As a cent i received a $100 resort credit above and beyond all the FHR benefits.
Our room wasn't ready for an early check-in, but we were willing to wait.
The Encore spa is much nicer than the Wynn spa, but my massage at the Wynn was better.

Depends on availability. Booking under FHR, a RA AND Platinum in the Palazzo's Grazie program and the best I got was an upgrade from luxury to luxury view. I made sure to remind the VIP agent the next time I was there and they upgraded me to a 2 bedroom Lago (I did have a reservation for 2 rooms so they may have been able to sell 2 rooms vs leaving the lago empty that weekend).

Not Vegas-specific but yes I have. I have paid with the SPG Amex for SPG FHR stays, and I have also paid a large share of my bill in cash on occasions when I've had leftover foreign currency. Never had a problem. I believe the official Amex rule is that the FHR benefits are available as long as the bill is paid with any Amex card in the portfolio of a Platinum or Centurion cardholder, but YMMV.
