Extended Warranty after card cancellation [but still holding another card]

Yep, definitely looks like Amex has changed their policy since this thread was started. Bought a hard drive on a card, it failed, and Amex said no go - the account "must be current and in good standing" (she read me the terms & conditions). Obviously there could be multiple interpretations of this phrase, but this appears to be the one they're going with.
Doesn't matter what card you have - we didn't even get to the point of asking which card I had, and which ones I have now. The answer was the same regardless.

Any other data points on this?

Purchase of personal use item using SPG Business card-- extended warranty?
I'm planning to make a couple electronic purchases (kitchen appliances) today and am trying to figure out what card to use. I've already decided it'll be an AMEX. I want to use the Platinum, but will likely close that card in 2016. Recent reports indicate that the card used to purchase the item must be open (not just any eligible AMEX), so I'm trying to decide between SPG and Blue Cash. I'll likely keep both cards for longer than a year.
The problem here is that my SPG is a Business card. I know many banks like to distinguish between business and personal purchases. For example, the Chase Ink cards offer secondary car rental insurance, but to use it, I would have to prove that the rental was for business. Will AMEX deny my claim if there's a problem, since my purchase is for personal (rather than business) use?

Use whichever card you know you'll keep.
I asked Amex Warranty Dept. earlier this month about an item I purchased at Costco with my Amex Costco earlier this year. I closed my Costco card on 9/16, and opened an Everyday on 9/17. They told me because I opened a new card within 48 hrs of closing one, all warranty protection transfers from the closed card to the newly opened card.
Amex does not care about the personal on business part of your question.

I would not depend on verbal assurances by a CSR, and I would not generalize from treatment of purchases made with the Costco co-branded card because that product will be discontinued and the customer will not have the ability to keep it open for the full benefit period. The same may well turn out to be true for the Starwood cards, but we don't know that yet.
The safe haven is to make important purchases with a card that you plan to keep, and keep it. There are no differences in coverage between cards except for the Platinum and Centurion charge cards.

The following statement appears in several Amex documents:
"To be eligible for claim payment, your account must be in good standing on the eligible card that maintains the original charge."

i haven't read this thread, but i just went through an extended warranty claim on an electrical device, on a secondary/spousal Business Gold Card that had been cancelled after the purchase
the primary card had been retained, and is still active.
the claim was paid, and they issued to my primary plat card after a phone call to request.

Amex not honoring warranty
Amex is not honoring my extended warranty. I filed a claim and they denied it, claiming that since i closed the account it is no longer valid. They quote a section that says it ceases when "you are no longer a cardholder."
I still have other Amex cards, and I remember at the time I closed it, I asked them about this issue, and they said that it will still be valid since I have other American Express cards.
Any experience what to do?!!

Today just received info on benefits from the Costco American Express Card when it transfers to Citibank and it does say extended warranty will be valid even if claim is made after card is no longer valid.

Amex is very good to you if you are a loyal customer. I am 90% sure if you have any amex card that has a member since date you will be covered. It may be an exception but they will take care of you. Loyal customer=pay on time, long time card member, etc

I spoke with the extended warranty department this time last year. I was told that once an account is closed the claims department "cannot see" the original purchase to verify it, or refund to the card if a claim is validated.
