Q: Do one-way awards include any stopovers?
A: Awards between North America and Europe, India, Asia, and Central / South America allow a stopover at the North American gateway. However, other one-way awards do not allow stopovers.

I'm hoping someone can help me with this issue.
I want to take advantage of the free stopover in the gateways city (LAX) with the following
JFK-LAX (stopover)-HKG- KUL, with JFK-LAX in AA F, and LAX-HKG-KUL in CX F. They are claiming it's two awards since CX doesn't have a valid routing through LAX.
I already hold JFK-LAX-HKG-SIN and was trying to just change the last leg. The system kept trying to charge me (via the Exp Desk agent) two awards. They went to the fare desk to override it. But they wouldn't do it for this change.
They are claiming that CX must not only publish a fare between JFK and KUL, they must publish a fare with the full routing through LAX. I thought only origin and destination needs to be published.
Is their information correct?
Could it violate the maximum permitted mileage?
Thanks in advance.

Actually it looks like the higher class fares are MPM. I would push it.

Thanks Skunker and Austinrunner.
Skunker, can you be a little more specific wrt fares being MPM or not MPM? I know about the MPM rule, but didn't think it was fare specific?
Also, if you could tell me specifically which fares are MPM (or at least one F class for CX that is MPM), that would be helpful.
Thanks in advance!
PS Also, does CX publish a routing through LAX for JFK - SIN?

Redemption Rules
Hi experts
I can't find the place on the AA website that explains the following (sorry if I'm being blind, but I did try!):
- How many segments can one take for a 1-way redemption?
- Can one stop-over on a 1-way redemption?
I want to do the following: AKL-SYD-HKG-SIN (or possibly AKL/CHC-BNE/MEL-SYD-HKG-SIN), possibly with a stop-over in one of those places.
Since HKG and SIN appear to be in the same region, I assume that I'd only pay the mileage of AKL-SIN, right?
Cheers!

I was able to find this thread by looking in the sticky titled "AWARD DESK: Information about AA, Partner, and oneworld Awards". In the list of useful threads there at the top, you'll find a link to this new thread.
If anyone has any questions about award redemption options, rules, etc., I would strongly urge him or her to start in that Award Desk thread as it's designed to be a starting point for just such questions.

So what's your question? If CX does not publish a MEX-HKG through-fare that permits routing via DFW and SFO, then the agent is absolutely correct.

I don't know if the agent is telling me the truth or not, I have seen my share of misinformation, so I am a bit skeptical. That's why I wanted to check here. Is there a way for me to look up publish routing rules?

Looks like the agent is wrong. CX does publish MEX-HKG.
OK, then; hang up and call again.

Yeah, I've done that twice today. Now they want to check the rules offline and call me back. Waiting to hear what she'll have to say when she calls me back. And these are ExP agents.
