For AA's announcement of their new One-Way Flex Awards, see: http://www.aa.com/i18n/amrcorp/newsr...FlexAwards.jsp

For AA's FAQ on the new One-Way Flex Awards, including the new stopover rule, see: http://www.aa.com/aa/i18nForward.do?...award_faqs.jsp
Q: Do one-way awards include any stopovers?
A: Awards between North America and Europe, India, Asia, and Central / South America allow a stopover at the North American gateway. However, other one-way awards do not allow stopovers.
Note that free stopovers have been eliminated as of 8 April 2014, so that portion of this discussion is no longer current.

There must be a published through fare from the origin to destination AND that fare must allow the routing you want. Two separate requirements.

JFK-LAX (stopover)-HKG- KUL, with JFK-LAX in AA F, and LAX-HKG-KUL in CX F. They are claiming it's two awards since CX doesn't have a valid routing through LAX.

I already hold JFK-LAX-HKG-SIN and was trying to just change the last leg. The system kept trying to charge me (via the Exp Desk agent) two awards. They went to the fare desk to override it. But they wouldn't do it for this change.

They are claiming that CX must not only publish a fare between JFK and KUL, they must publish a fare with the full routing through LAX. I thought only origin and destination needs to be published.

Is their information correct?
Could it violate the maximum permitted mileage?

Thanks in advance.
CX publishes the fare, but the routing is what is getting you. Not an MPM fare.
/VIA THE PACIFIC/
1. NYC-HKG-KA/CX-KUL
2. NYC-CX-YVR-HKG-KA/CX-KUL
Keep JFK-SIN and buy a flight to KUL.

Actually it looks like the higher class fares are MPM. I would push it.
/VIA THE PACIFIC/ MPM 11460

Thanks Skunker and Austinrunner.

Skunker, can you be a little more specific wrt fares being MPM or not MPM? I know about the MPM rule, but didn't think it was fare specific?

Also, if you could tell me specifically which fares are MPM (or at least one F class for CX that is MPM), that would be helpful.

Thanks in advance!

PS Also, does CX publish a routing through LAX for JFK - SIN?

The following fares are published by CX for JFK-KUL one-way on 11/1/13 (I don't know your travel date).
Code:

VLSPCLO CX V One-Way 630.00(USD)
LLSPCLO CX L One-Way 720.00(USD)
MLSPCLO CX M One-Way 810.00(USD)
KLSPCLO CX K One-Way 930.00(USD)
HLSPCLO CX H One-Way 1050.00(USD)
ELSPCLO CX E One-Way 1140.00(USD)
RLSPCLO CX R One-Way 1380.00(USD)
BLSPCLO CX B One-Way 1464.00(USD)
Y CX Y One-Way 3673.00(USD)
W CX W One-Way 4279.00(USD)
IWSPCLOW CX I One-Way 4590.00(USD)
DWNYC CX D One-Way 6056.00(USD)
C CX C One-Way 8012.00(USD)
J CX J One-Way 10995.00(USD)
F CX F One-Way 15564.00(USD)
The bolded fares are MPM fares and the others are routing fares. JFK-SIN has the same fares filed but the routing fares are slightly different with these rules:
/VIA THE PACIFIC/
1. NYC-CX-YVR-HKG-CX/KA-BKK-CX/KA-SIN
2. NYC-CX-YVR-HKG-CX/KA-SIN
3. NYC-HKG-CX/KA-BKK-CX/KA-SIN
4. NYC-HKG-CX/KA-SIN
JFK-LAX-HKG-KUL is under the MPM at 11,310.

Redemption Rules

Hi experts

I can't find the place on the AA website that explains the following (sorry if I'm being blind, but I did try!):

- How many segments can one take for a 1-way redemption?
- Can one stop-over on a 1-way redemption?

I want to do the following: AKL-SYD-HKG-SIN (or possibly AKL/CHC-BNE/MEL-SYD-HKG-SIN), possibly with a stop-over in one of those places.

Since HKG and SIN appear to be in the same region, I assume that I'd only pay the mileage of AKL-SIN, right?

Cheers!

You can't make a stop over here.

I've merged your question into the consolidated thread on this topic.

I was able to find this thread by looking in the sticky titled "AWARD DESK: Information about AA, Partner, and oneworld Awards". In the list of useful threads there at the top, you'll find a link to this new thread.

If anyone has any questions about award redemption options, rules, etc., I would strongly urge him or her to start in that Award Desk thread as it's designed to be a starting point for just such questions.

I'm trying to book this itinerary and AA agents are telling me this is two awards

MEX(AA)-DFW(AA)-SFO(stop)(CX)-HKG

They say that this itinerary is not a published CX routing.

So what's your question? If CX does not publish a MEX-HKG through-fare that permits routing via DFW and SFO, then the agent is absolutely correct.

I don't know if the agent is telling me the truth or not, I have seen my share of misinformation, so I am a bit skeptical. That's why I wanted to check here. Is there a way for me to look up publish routing rules?

Looks like the agent is wrong. CX does publish MEX-HKG.

Yeah, I've done that twice today. Now they want to check the rules offline and call me back. Waiting to hear what she'll have to say when she calls me back. And these are ExP agents.

Do such things happen with AA often? I've been very trustful of AA when I hear such things and always give up.
