I think it may be open again. The website doesn't show it as closed and I received this from a Twitter DM:

Our site is showing the Lounge is open from 5 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. daily.

I fly to London tonight, I will post a message if it in fact is open. I won't be able to say how it is compared to the old one because this is my first time there when I was eligible to go.

American’s only Arrivals Lounge, located inside LHR, opens today after undergoing a multi-million dollar refurbishment to drastically improve the overall look and ambiance of the facility.

The lounge now features 29 top-notch shower rooms. All shower rooms are stocked with complimentary C.O. Bigelow shower toiletries, shower caps, cotton balls, cotton swabs and mouth wash, plus dental and shave kits on request. A valet service assists guests who need their clothing to be pressed. Other lounge facilities include a business center and meeting room.

But you can't just look good and go hungry. Our catering partner for the lounge is Rhubarb, and their mission statement is “Deliciously different." They'll deliver premium food and beverages, greet guests and ensure their other needs are taken care of. There is also a Grab-n-Go station for hungry and hurried travelers.

Enhancing the food and beverage experience at LHR
* Now offering champagne and Bucks Fizz
* Upgrading the breakfast buffet to include made-to-order smoothies and omelets, pastries, pancakes and porridge
* Features a new a la carte menu option
* Introducing a lunch service including a buffet, artisan breads, a British cheese board and seasonal dishes
* New buffet options will be offered every four weeks, and the a la carte menu will change every three weeks

Can wait to hear about it and see some pictures before I arrive next month to check it out for myself.

Did you, ahem, happen to see the label on the bottle? ;)

This is all great news and will be a substantial upgrade from the old arrivals experience.

Good news, but I will miss the old lounge in all it's 1987-ness.

Yes it is open... the shower suites seemed nice to me, big shower head with nice water flow and plenty of hot water, no wait to use - I'm easy to please! I wanted to start day so didn't partake in breakfast or the champage.

Looking forward to using it next month -- what were the food options?

I'm at the arrivals lounge right now. It's about 11:30 a.m. in London, and there are maybe 10 people here. Here are a few pictures of the food that's available:

Thanks for sharing. Looks like a big improvement from what it was in the past (although I always appreciated the shower and pressing service).

In addition to the champagne, I noticed the Bloody Mary bar.. nice!

Whats the average time these days for clearing customs & immigration in London? We will be arriving 9AM so figuring on visiting arrivals lounge for showers and breakfast before heading in to LHR. Assuming an hour in the lounge I'm trying to account for how much time in immigration/customs (flying in J if that helps) before we get in to the lounge so that I can schedule our car service. 1 hr buffer?
