Free WiFi Rollout Issues

Lotsbof reports today that the t mobile free wifi option is gone as of today amd has yet to be replaced with new free wifi for Advantage members. Someone posted they email viasat and were told it won't be available till 1/6 at earliest.

How pathetic, should of left the tmobile option up until the new one was rolled out. Penny pinching at its finest.

Probably something contractual between TMO and AA that was agreed upon months ago that isn't worth re-negotiating for 6 more days. You can always pony up a few bucks if WiFi is important to you in the coming week. I believe there's also an option for 20 minutes free if you watch an ad.

That's crap. I hope it is fixed before my flights later this month as I use the T-Mo wifi option often.

Reports are all free options are not available. Really you are defending AA, now I got to pay 20 bucks for wifi which is basically free now on the other major carriers.

I think this timely reminder is in order.

I don't know that it's necessarily penny-pinching, I believe we're just in a brief period where they're in between contracts. I agree it sucks, but I do hope you're able to find a way to cope. For us non-T-mobile customers it's business as usual.

if free internet is that important, you could always fly with an airline that has it while waiting for AA to get theirs launched. We have <60 days left for status qualification so most people know if they "need" to stay on AA between now and Feb 28 or if they can cheat on them with Delta or United for a few weeks

I'm not defending AA. But your sensational headline "Can AA go any lower" is a little bit of an overreach. That kind of statement is more warranted when they actually do purposefully remove services that were of good value to the customer. The Luis CK clip above is very apropos here and I remember seeing that when it aired. I am reminded of his bit every time I fly and the WiFi is not performing great, if at all.

Almost like complaining about salt in an Admirals Club 😂

Happy New Year everybody!

Free WiFi starts Tuesday 1/6. https://onemileatatime.com/news/amer...nes-free-wifi/

I also saw the OMAAT article, but I didn't see any link to an official announcement. I hope it's 1/6 but until I see an official announcement, I'm not holding my breath.

IMO, this is another great example of really poor communication from AA Marketing. They announce "free WiFi in January". What they should have announced was free WiFi by the end of January. The former means people are disappointed when it isn't free on 1/1. The latter means people are pleasantly surprised when it becomes free sometime in in the middle of the month.

If I'm understanding the fleet site and the OMAAT article correctly (assuming that Gogo 2Ku is considered Intelsat and that the AA Fleet Site is up to date), this is what the fleet breakdown will look like for free Wi-Fi:

Aircraft with free Wi-Fi:
All mainline narrowbody aircraft (including 32Ts and XLRs)
All 787-8 with Super Diamond biz seats
All 787-9P (new high-J config)
Some of the CR7s and CR9s (ones with Viasat, no way to tell from looking at fleet type or seat map)
Some of the ERJ-170s and 175s (ones with Viasat, no way to tell from looking at fleet type or seat map)

Aircraft with free Wi-Fi announced:
Refurbed 77Ws (ones without F, aircraft with F have paid Panasonic Wi-Fi)
Remaining CR7 and CR9 that still have Gogo Air-To-Ground (the free option only covers satellite wifi, these aircraft should be getting Viasat in the coming months)
Remaining ERJ-170 and 175s that still have Gogo Air-To-Ground (the free option only covers satellite wifi, these aircraft should be getting Viasat in the coming months)
777-200s (converting to Viasat starting Fall 2026)

Aircraft with paid Wi-Fi for the foreseeable future:
All 787-8 with Concept D biz seats
All 787-9 with Super Diamond J seats (30J)

Aircraft with no Wi-Fi and installation not planned:
ERJ145s

Yes, AA could go lower than not having free wi-fi for six days.
