Help with changing email address

Hi all -- long-time reader, first-time poster. I haven't logged into my Advantage account since probably 2019, and I didn't realize that the email address in my profile is one that's no longer active (from a job I retired from in 2019). When I try to log in to my Advantage account now, it automatically sends a verification message to that defunct email address, with no option to send the verification message somewhere else, like to the cellphone number listed in the profile. I called AA tech support today to get the email address changed; the support person kept requesting addresses of places where I used to live pre-2010, which I can't remember and may not have a record of (shredded lots of old documents before moving across the country in 2019).

Can anyone advise if there is another way to verify my identity and have my email address changed so I can log in to my AA account? If not, I guess I'll follow the process specified to close the account and (maybe) open a new one in the future.

Many thanks!

You don't remember any of the places you have lived before 2010? Really? I can remember the address of places lived even back to my teen years and I am well pass my 40th birthday.
Unless you can adequately authenticate yourself to prove you are the owner of the account, AA is well within its right not to grant you access. Just think if someone was doing this to gain access to your account. You may want to consider moving on from that old account and starting a new one, if you cannot verify yourself to AA's comfort.

i mean people dont usually update their address, so aa likely only have 1 record of your address. try to think what is your address roughly around the point of sign up. this is also a good lesson to not use company email for personal stuff

You don’t have old tax returns, perhaps scanned, with the address info?

A lot of sites nowadays seem to ask about previous addresses for identity verification, through they usually display a bunch and ask which one was yours (which might jog your memory).

If you download a free credit report, it will show your old addresses. That is the same place that AA will go to verify your old addresses.
