How do I confirm ticket is fully refundable?

Purchased a very expensive international ticket for 5 people -- refundable was key -- and got all my email confirmations (Y Class) but there's nothing anywhere in the emails confirming it is fully refundable. How do I show/prove that if there's a dispute?

If you print the itinerary/receipt there may be an endorsements / restrictions section that shows refundability.

If your bookings are truly in Y fare bucket, it *should* be completely unrestricted. You can call AA to confirm.

You should print/pdf the full fare rules, which are available right before you click “purchase”. Unfortunately, half the time AA.com returns a blank page when you try to access them/agree to them. Refundability is typically specified by the language in the “Penalties” section.

This is not actually true. YA2AAN fares are domestic, non-refundable Y fares (the refundable variant of these are "YA2AA" fares).

Refundable fares will say the following in the Penalties section of fare rules (as opposed to the "TICKET IS NON-REFUNDABLE" text above).

For AA domestic fares, 6th character of 8 letter fare basis codes is an 'R' for refundable fares, and an 'N' or 'S' for non-refundable fares. International fares can use other positions/letters in fare basis code to indicate refundability. For example, AA TATL fares use last position and a '5' for non-refundable fares and a '1' or '9' for refundable fares.

Here's an example of a domestic refundable fare basis code.
