Booking without an AA #

I’d like to book a surprise trip for my GF and I. I’d like for the trip to not populate in her AA app.

If I book a ticket in her name, but without her AA number, will it flow up to the app?

She’s PP and flies monthly so it’s likely that she’d see it if it appeared.

No, it usually does not. It only appears (and stays) in the app after manually look up for it with your name and PNR.

Without her AAdvantage number, it definitely won't appear. I've done this a few times. After the trip is over, you can retroactively request credit for her account.

Or add her FF# at the airport.

Having her add it 2 hours before might do it. By then, she’ll know she’s going somewhere and she’ll also know where she’s going. Ideally, that’ll give her reservation enough time to upload her precheck too…

Just a question and another question.

Does she like that level of surprise? I learned long ago my wife does not like even small surprises. It was a painful reeducation process for me. Eventually I learned.

Also, if she is a PP and you are something lower, are you giving away any chance of an upgrade by not having her AAdvantage number attached to the tickets?

There's gonna be a ring on the end of it, so yeah, she'll need to like the surprise.
I'm open to suggestions btw.. 2 hour circle around Charlotte, probably don't want to go north. November / December timeframe. I'm thinking New Orleans could be charming for a few days. .

That's a good point about giving away the chance for an upgrade. She'll have to suffer in coach.

How about Key West or Nassau? Each is just a little over two hours gate to gate.

You can enter a KTN without entering a FF#
