Forced layover
Hi,
We had our 6 am flight from Indy to Miami was delayed so we wouldn’t make our connecting flight to Quito. We would have a short layover, like an hour. They booked us tomorrow for the 6 am flight but now we have a nine hour layover. We were wondering if that would be a case where AA should provide a voucher but I’m guessing not. But they should reimburse us for our extra night at the airport hotel and our meals, right? The agent said all they could do for us was rebook but their policy says otherwise. Thanks! |
If it was today's flight, they should pay up:

You booked an international itinerary with a 54 minute layover on the "busiest travel day of the year". Poor planning. Flying to Miami the day prior would have been a better option.
Regardless, what exactly is AA going to pay for? Why didn't you fly to Miami? The flight to Miami was delayed, and not cancelled? |

OP at IND in the morning I would ask (might have to push & demand) to be put on the standby list on the earlier Quito flight, the one with the 1h layover. They will say standby needs to be on the app, etc. but you should remind them you are an involuntary delayed/displaced passenger. The agent should put you on the standby list and ensure you are coded as a delayed passenger so you are higher. Do not wait to MIA it will be too late. |

Poor planning. Having a 180min minimum connection time requirement on every itinerary that day would have been the better option for AA sales! |
comp a hotel where--- in Indy? AA won't reimburse for that. They may give you meal vouchers during your 9 hour layover. I'd ask for that.
Did you purchase trip insurance ? If so, you can file your claim there. |

I was tempted to ask the same question, but was feeling somewhat embarrassed that I didn't know:D. Anyway, the "so far" qualifier certainly deflates the excitement quite a bit, regardless of whether we're talking about the 26th, 28th, or any other date relatively close to July 4.

Our trip insurance reimbursed us. I had forgotten we had taken it out, we don’t always. Thanks!
