Fare Currency

I am looking at a fare out of YHZ and it does not show which dollar it is. Is it USD or CAD when out of Canada?

Unless otherwise specified, currency is based on the departure city

Thank you very much. It just says dollars.

I think it is usd, my experience with aa is it shows in usd no matter what while delta shows in local currency, assuming you are looking at aa.com, but if you select the flight and go to the next page you can then hit fare breakdown and rules and it will tell you the currency as part of the breakdown

US FEDERAL INSPECTION FEE (UNITED STATES)

I see the following, clearly says CAD.

tennessetom Apr 13, 2024 6:21 pm

Yes, clearly says cad if it is in cad, you could be using the ap or have you setting to local if it just says dollars it tends to be usd, but you are kind of making my point if it is cad it will say so not just dollars but no need to guess when you can hit select and and get the answer, in the end as with many things different setting or access lead to different results

The currency displayed is dependent upon the region selected on the aa.com website

If set to Canada, it shows Canadian Dollars ( CAD ) , if set to Australia it shows Australian Dollars (AUD) and if set to USA, it just shows $ - if just showing the '$' currency symbol rather than a currency code, then you are set to United States for the site and the price is in USD

If you want to pay in Canadian Dollars, change the site to Canada and it will price in CAD

What determines the currency used at the time of purchase? The departure country? The region set on aa.com? Or maybe even the billing country of the credit card? What I'm getting at is in the case of a Canadian departure, if you're in the US and have aa.com set to US such that it quotes fares in USD, this doesn't necessarily mean that the purchase will be in USD - it could just be converting the native currency for the fare to USD for display purposes. Many hotel sites will do this.

Try a few examples
Set country on AA site to Canada and you will get prices returned in CAD
Set country on AA site to USA and you will get prices returned in USD
Set country on AA site to Australia and you will get prices returned in AUD

Regardless of the route

How the underlying base rate for the route is set, it will use that currency for the quote

As an exmaple SYD-LAX on May 9 on flight departing 0915 arriving 0615 (AA72)

Set to Canadian CAD1521
Set to US $1093
Set to Australia AUD1674.08
