Using AAdvantage miles for a spouse

Has anyone attempted to use aa.com lately to purchase a flight for someone else using their own miles? This used to work, but I'm getting an error now -- it makes me pick the flights again, and never progresses to purchase. Anyone else have this issue?

Is this a partner award we're talking about?

There's now a longstanding aa.com bug that for some partner awards when you try to purchase it it just goes in circles back to the payment page. You have to put it on hold then call AA to ticket.

Regardless it's never a problem to use your miles to book a ticket for someone else, so whatever the issue is it most likely has nothing to do with that.

Be sure to uncheck your name in the passenger details section. Once you do that the field will open up and allow you to type in another individuals name or select others who are already in your aa.com profile.

Ah, that could be it. One of the flights is on Alaska.

Thanks!

EDIT: nope, that didn't work. It fails before I reach the place to hold. But it does appear to be the partner airline bug: if I only choose AA flights, it works. I'll have to call them.

Hi I have been having the same issue!
Has anyone figured this out yet? I have been having issues all year booking for a family member and end up not being able to book. Using same exact methods as the last 10 years I have been doing this online. Called and they wanted to charge to create ticket over phone and they could not help with the error.

Why would it matter if the flight is on a partner airline?
Thank you!

I was able to book BA SAN-LHR-SAN 2 weeks ago for a friend using my miles - no issues

Are you in the U.S., or another country? I thought that AA eliminated the phone-booking fee for AAdvantage awards -- at least for U.S. AAdvantage members. Has that fee been reinstated? What number did you call?
