AA "Full refund to original form of payment"
 

Hi all, I purchased a return trip ticket from HND to LAX for 2 adults on American Airlines (Main; booking code: O) a few minutes ago. When I booked, it said "Full refund to original form of payment". I tried to look at the detailed fare rules when I was making the purchase, but it does not show anything (already tried using different browsers).

Does "full refund to original form of payment" mean that I can cancel beyond the standard 24-hour window (ie anytime before departure time) and then get a full refund to the credit card? Or is it just referring to the 24 hour refund rule (which would be highly deceptive but I wouldn't be surprised if it's legal)?

Also, generally speaking, are the fare rules something that people can see? I tried calling the American Airlines Reservations number and the person I spoke to said that they are only for internal use so they aren't something that the customers can see, which sounds strange to me.

I contacted AA in a post on X, and they replied to me. They said the tickets themselves are fully refundable, but there is a JPY ¥30,000 penalty per person that applies when requesting the refund. At the time of purchase, the website said that the tickets are fully refundable, but didn't mention anything about a penalty, so be sure to double-check refund conditions before going through with the purchase. (This fact is not stated in the conditions of carriage nor in the Refunds FAQ.)
