Cancled Flight Compenation?
Hey All,
I took a connecting flight on AA home from the Dominican Republic recently. When I arrived in MIA, AA sent me note that my flight was delayed 1 hour. Shortly after that, I received another note stating my flight was canceled and I was re-booked. This was a Saturday, and was trying to get to EWR (AA re-booked me for Monday morning from CLT) which I felt was unacceptable. Upon checking my options on other airlines, cash and points and checking into getting home from FLL there was nothing until Monday. AA was able to find availability from CLT Sunday evening at 7 PM, and put me on standby on all the other flights. This meant I had to stay in the airport overnight once I arrived in CLT as AA was not giving any hotel voucher. I did not know this, but I do now as I should have reached out to AMEX as I paid for the fight using my gold card. AA told me the flight was canceled by ATC but did not specify a reason.
Other passengers I was with were also upset. I read somewhere AA does not give any compensation, and there website is limited to how many characters you can type by sending them a message. Is this even worth pursing or are my chances of compensation slim?

Assuming it was ATC, you aren't due any compensation but you might get some miles as a customer service gesture.
In the future, it's worthwhile to use a good travel credit card that gives you good travel insurance; it will cover meals and a hotel. I always recommend the CSR because it's pretty cheap compared to other high-end travel cards once you take the travel credit into account and their PP membership includes restaurant access. The Amex Plat has more credits for various things but in general they are (intentionally, IMO) harder to use and so there tends to be more breakage.

Thanks, how about CSP as I have that card but the CSR just does not make sense for me? Would CSP give me the same insurance as CSR? I used AMEX gold as I was meeting a sub for a retention offer. Silly move on my part.
AA sent me from MIA to CLT once I located the flights from CLT. They were so hard to deal with as I had to present them with the available flights. I did everything I could to fly from MIA or FLL even if it meant flying into LGA or JFK, there were just no options available.

I don't have a CSP; look at the benefits. But I doubt it; good travel insurance is usually only offered with higher end cards. If you travel a few times a year the CSR is a good card. Remember that you get almost half the AF back in statement credits for anything that codes as travel. So it's cheaper than it looks if you travel.
