LAX International Tom Bradley bag drop
If I arrive on a Air France flight at LAX Tom Bradley and I buy a ticket from LAX>PHX can the bag drop people issue me new AA bag tags so I do not need to drag my bags to AA domestic check in? I can check myself in online on my phone and will be ticketed prior to leaving us customs. FOR CLARITY I know I have to go thru customs and immigration. My question is can the bag drop people at Tom Bradley issue me a AA domestic bag tag ?

No. In the US you need to pick up your bags after immigration after an intl flight regardless of any onward flights. I.e you will do immigration, pick up your bags, then recheck them if they have the correct tag on them - which youll need to get from a machine or check in agent

I had the opposite experience, AA (and BA?) had staff at desks in the recheck hall. I've never used them though, so I can't effectively comment on whether they can check (not recheck) bags or not, but I don't see why they wouldn't be able to.

There is not a lot of dragging.
the walk to the recheck area is not that much shorter than the walk to T4.
I have seen staff at the recheck hall so I don't see why they wouldn't issue tags for you.
If not , just walk to T4. It is one more minute of walking.

Yes, but then you don't get to use the very quiet (imo) security checkpoint that leads to the T4-TBIT connector.
If you do have to walk, just make sure you go up one level in TBIT before walking over, unless you enjoy the smell of diesel fumes (although the smoking area is between T4 and TBIT on the departure level, so ymmv)

I don't believe so, you might be able to get away with something slightly larger, but definitely won't get away with something that doesn't fit through the scanners. I have seen the contract security folks before the T4-TBIT connector security be very strict in terms of access to walk to the checkpoint, so they probably will be strict with bag sizes. If that is an issue, I'd argue with AA that they themselves made you violate the cutoff (due to a late flight), and therefore you should still be able to recheck said bag.
