Standby - Later flight
Maybe I wasn't doing something right. But is there any way to get a boarding pass on the AA app or at the kiosk when standing by for a later flight? Was doing so at PHl today and was running late. Once my original flight time passed, I had no flights on my app for the day at all. I could see in the flight status my name on standby, however. Had to wait in the priority line, which of course a bunch of people in front of me checking what seemed like 10 suitcases each. Then ran for the gate.

Keep in mind you don't need it to get through security at most airports now if you have PreCheck, it's just ID, so you shouldn't have had to wait at the ticket counter unless you were also checking bags. If they see two flights pop up (original and standby), have your flight number handy. Usually they will ask you which flight you're on but sometimes they ask to see your BP... but rattling off the flight number is just as good if that's why they're asking. |

Although you don't have to present a boarding pass if they have the new machines at the checkpoint, I was under the impression that (unlike the regular machines) those new new ones did a database dip and check to make sure you have a boarding pass issued to you, in addition to confirming your PreCheck status. Am I wrong about that? If not, is that going to work if you're on standby for a flight and whatever a standby board pass is hasn't been issued?

My understanding is it ("Credential Authentication Technology") is just based on PNR data. I've certainly gone through security when I haven't yet checked in (unwittingly, but it's happened more than once).

EWR terminal A requires you to scan your boarding pass to enter TSA Pre-Check and LGA terminal B requires you to show your boarding pass to enter TSA Pre-Check, so having nothing wouldn’t work.
|
PHL also has contractors that check your boarding pass before letting you into the Pre-Check line.

Going through pre-check in BOS recently I had two reservations, so the TSA agent asked to see my BP.
I wasn’t able to check in online for my primary reservation because I was traveling internationally and had to have my passport checked. The kiosk wasn’t sufficient and the lines at the desk were insane, so I booked and checked in for a domestic award flight solely so I could get a BP; I then canceled it immediately after clearing security and checked in for my international trip in the AC. I had no idea I would have been able to clear security without having checked in, though I don’t recall if there’s a contractor checking for pre-check status in order to enter the queue. |
If it’s the preCheck checking contractor you’re trying to get past, just show them a screenshot of an old boarding pass. The AA iOS wallet boarding passes don’t even show a date on them (but the QR code fades on old boarding passes.)

Good thinking. I think the AA app now automatically deletes BPs from the iOS wallet; I’ll grab a screen shot of my next flight later this week for the unlikely event this issue arises again. .
