Group 9 with a Priority Business Seat (LIM-MIA)

Flew LIM-MIA with my non-status daughter and we got op-up'ed (first time on an AA international flight), on basic economy tickets no less. (Honestly, given the poor hard product, lack of FL access, and lack of any lounge access in LIM, the possibility of an op-up on an inexpensive fare is about the only reason I can think of to fly AA to LIM these days.)

I guess you'll have to board with the rest of BE. .
Perhaps AA's "excellent" IT treats your upgrade as a simple seating change instead of an upgrade because it can't handle op-ups from BE,..

I believe there have been lots of reports of this behavior also with EXP's upgrading BE tickets with SWU's. You have a business class seat but the BP still sticks with Group 9. IIRC you can call AA and they can fix it.

C class on your BP? I would check my account in a few days to make sure the agent didnt help themselves to my SWU balance

Even without an upgrade, how would an EXP be in Group 9? AFAIK it is already programmed that status trumps BE.

Companions of EXP, not the EXP themselves. My SO was group 9, First Class after we both cleared

Do you know what to tell the phone agent when you call in to fix this? I have an upcoming reservation with 4x passengers upgraded from basic economy to business. I notice when looking at the AA booking page that the class is still listed as "basic economy" so I'd anticipate Group 9 would be listed

Just board whenever. its not worth the effort.

AA doesn't enforce boarding order anyways, so it's unlikely you get stopped. If you do, simply point out the Business Class.

The Oneworld lounge site shows Sumaq with this note:

Airlines

  • Iberia
  • Access for eligible customers traveling on these oneworld member airlines only.
No access when flying AA.

I can confirm this from anecdotal experience.
Currently, no lounge access in LIM for AA pax.

So AA wont give J passengers lounge access. It is the least they could do for flying the 32Q with no IFE while others are using wide bodies or narrow bodies (757) with lay flat seats.

Given that AA doesn't even give FL access to LIM passengers, shows exactly how much they don't care.

AA owns South America, good bad and ugly. You can either put up with their stuff or fly UA or DL. The other option is B6, NK or LA (save for specific widebody routes). If enough people walk away, then maybe they'll change their tune; until then.....
