It increases you chances from 0.6% to 0.8%. Hardly seems worth the effort to even discuss this anymore. :D

I got upgraded to F from J on BOS-LAX last month as a BA Gold, I didn't ask though, I just got a notification through the app that my seat had changed.

Plotting a strategy to maximize your chances of an op-up on a specific flight is likely to be about as fruitful as plotting your strategy to win the Powerball. In over 50 years of flying I have received two op-ups. One was on Eastern Airlines from NY to Florida in 1988, and that was not related to status, as there was no such thing back then. I have no idea why I was chosen. And the other was on a BA LIN-LHR flight in 2015, when my wife and I got bumped up to CE. That was certainly related to my OWE status. I still remember the full English we got, but then the food always seems better when you get an unexpected upgrade.

I don’t think I’ve ever had an op-up on AA as a BA silver/gold. My wife and son got one once as BA silver flying DCA-BUF. Definitely not something to expect.

The only op-ups I've ever received were when I had no status at all.

(He actually later married her so he can get the op-ups, but we all know how that turned out... ) |

Quick question, T-41 to departure now and just took a peek on ExpertFlyer: J is zeroed out (confirmed on AA.com as well) and yet there are 15 seats still unassigned (confirmed on AA.com as well). Is it really that so many J passengers have not selected seats and/or have corporate/AMEX bookings in which seating requests haven't translated through well? Even between this and possible upgrades waiting to clear I think it's strange that no more J is being sold with so many unassigned seats?

Curious as was hoping to avail of a good POUG/AUP but alas don't think possible if no J being sold?
