But you're saying that there's a chance... :p

I got upgraded to F from J on BOS-LAX last month as a BA Gold, I didn't ask though, I just got a notification through the app that my seat had changed.

I have no idea why I was chosen. And the other was on a BA LIN-LHR flight in 2015, when my wife and I got bumped up to CE. That was certainly related to my OWE status. I still remember the full English we got, but then the food always seems better when you get an unexpected upgrade.

Yaa normally so these days. I've received more than 50 op ups across numerous airlines but most of these were pre-covid. But even now yk there are methods and systems to improve chances not sure about AA but in general it can be done. It happened yesterday for me on UA TATL. Booked low eco some time ago. This week I saw PE was totally sold out but when I clicked on upgrade cabin there was an offer for 375USD. I took the offer. When I checked in the app stated "See agent" for BP. Sure enough at my connecting point I received a new BP for Polaris. I'm 1K/MM on UA and this was UA metal but this was exactly my plan to maximize op-up on a specific flight. I could have chosen numerous other connecting options but the key was lots of unsold J with a full R cabin and still UA wanted to upsell probably knowing they would need to roll us forward.

I don’t think I’ve ever had an op-up on AA as a BA silver/gold. My wife and son got one once as BA silver flying DCA-BUF. Definitely not something to expect.

Can I send you a DM so you can help me pick the numbers for the upcoming MEGA Millions?

The only op-ups I've ever received were when I had no status at all.

In case that wasn't super clear, this is Lloyd, asking the AA GA, Mary, what are his chances for an op-up at the gate as a BA Gold...:)

(He actually later married her so he can get the op-ups, but we all know how that turned out... )

Dude... sriously it's not that arcane. Lets start with KL back in the day with NW Plat status and real reciprocidad... book awards for the first weekend of school vac in NL and watch as "BEEP! New seat!" and your fam all gets op-ups at gate AMS to EWR/JFK/LAX//IAH etc. Then lets go UA... when the merger happened I was in limbo CO Plat vs UA 1K...DEN-CUN denied EconPlus because integration had not happened inside hte system..but sufficent integration had occurred for StarG to be operationally upgraded. So we have the comical sit at the gate of "Sorry Sir CO Plat not entitiedl to E+...but here's your BP" (opup to F). Then BA...no status but anyway opup bc I booked WT+ when bookings were high and at the gate at DEN "beep"... then UA same thing book for heavy fam leisure days and watch as BEEP BEEP etc. NRT Golden Week book deliberately coz any-and-all US bound flights are oversold...either 1500USD voucher or opup take ur pick....both if u r skilled and lucky.

Yaa those were back in the day..... but the fact I did this two days ago and I just explained to y'all how I made it work demonstrates.... #notfake.

Quick question, T-41 to departure now and just took a peek on ExpertFlyer: J is zeroed out (confirmed on AA.com as well) and yet there are 15 seats still unassigned (confirmed on AA.com as well). Is it really that so many J passengers have not selected seats and/or have corporate/AMEX bookings in which seating requests haven't translated through well? Even between this and possible upgrades waiting to clear I think it's strange that no more J is being sold with so many unassigned seats?

Curious as was hoping to avail of a good POUG/AUP but alas don't think possible if no J being sold?

On a TATL flight like that with that many unassigned seats yet the flight showing J0 it's highly likely that it's just oversold in PE and/or Y. AA does this all the time. A LFBU may be offered but probably not until check-in.
