Mileage Price On Held Reservation Doesn't Stick When Going to Pay
I put a reservation on hold where I wanted to redeem 66,000 miles for a ticket. Today I go to pay for the reservation online and it automatically reprices to 188,000 miles. When I click the reservation in my account, when it loads, it says the correct 66,000 mile amount. It only reprices once I indicate I want to pay for the ticket. Am I out of luck here? I thought when you hold a reservation, the price you hold remains the same during the hold, even if the price otherwise changes for others wanting to purchase the same flight.

The Twitter team can fix it.

If you're saying it's still showing the wrong amount on the very last page, then that's for sure strange, but no you're not out of luck. Just give AA a call and see what's up, an agent should be able to push it through at the original/correct award price.

This happened to me today. Had three tickets on hold that were supposed to total 69,000 miles, and the actual price came in at 83,000 when I went to purchase. A quick call to the EXP line resolved this with no argument on their end.
The only reason I even noticed was that I incorrectly entered one of the digits from my credit card. This forced me to repeat the payment, and my attention fell on the fact that this was not the right number of miles. Kind of annoying

Guess I should've checked here first. Just got off the phone with AA and the agent seemed to suggest that this is a common issue with the website and mobile app, and she processed the payment with the original mileage.

Is this typical? Increased miles for award flight while reservation placed on hold.
Good afternoon,
I few days ago I found a pretty reasonable miles redemption for DCA to NAS nonstop in December for four of us. As I wasn't completely sure of our travel plans, I placed the reservation on hold (good through 7/24). Today we were able to confirm that we can get those days off so I logged in to complete the purchase. However, the miles needed for the flight has now tripled. Is this something that is pretty typical for AA or do I need to call in to complete the purchase at the original redemption level? Thanks in advance.

I had this exact same issue with an award ticket yesterday, and due to many on here recommending reaching out to the AA Twitter team for help correcting the mileage mistake that was the route I went. It took about 30 minutes for them to respond.
I wrote a short message explaining what happened and also uploaded screenshots of the first email I got from AA confirming the award reservation was on hold for 12k miles (On hold until 11:59pm July 22nd) and then uploaded a second screenshot of the confirmation email after ticketing the award about 10-minutes after placing on hold with the price now being 14,500 miles. I asked the agent to please adjust and refund the 2,500 miles back to my Aadvantage account.
The Twitter rep refused to honor the 12k miles *even with* the photo evidence and insisted the mileage was 14,500. Ive had equally bad luck with the AA chat support on the app.
Lastly, this was a one-way domestic Y ticket and I was charged $11.20. Perhaps I missed something but arent one-way domestic Y awards $5.60 in taxes & fees?

Update- I just called the EXP line and the agent was able to honor the original 66,000 mile price w/o issue. AA Twitter specifically told me to call Reservations because the Twitter team supposedly aren't able to take credit card information. But the flight (EZE-JFK-DFW)! in business was booked at the correct price. I did not book at the inflated price and ask them to adjust afterwards, but just had them book the held reservation for 66k.

Just happened to me and I ended up canceling the flight in disgust. The Hold expired at midnight and last thing I wanted to deal with on a Saturday night was a call to AA.
Does make me wonder what AA is doing behind the scenes though. (Testing for new rollouts and further devaluations, etc.) It seems like there's an unusually high occurrence of varying problems reported with award holds over the past week.

The few times I tried contacting American via Twitter (before I closed my Twitter account) they've been utterly useless.
I've fallen back to the old standard of "hang up, call again" if there's an issue that isn't resolved first call.
