When does special / bulk earning chart come into play?
AA's fare code chart (linked HERE) shows a percentage mileage earned based on fare code with the note "AAdvantage status member bonuses will be applied in addition to the percentages shown for base miles."
As far as I can tell, every flight I've been on this year has earned LPs based on the spend only. All have credited LPs as expected and RDMs are seemingly equivalent to the LPs. I've definitely booked some of the lower earning fares (V, G, Q, etc) and not noticed anything strange. For example, as Platinum at the moment, even a Q or O fare booked at $400 earns me the expected 400 * 8 = 3,200 LP and 3,200 RDM. So what exactly is this percentage and when / where does it come into play with the new Loyalty Points structure? |

For travel on AA-coded flights, these are the rules for earning miles and LPs:

That chart is for special fares -- bulk or consolidator fares -- where AA doesn't know the fare paid by the individual traveler.

I've updated this thread's title to more accurately reflect its contents.

Got it - thanks for the clarity. Would a fare purchased through Amex or Chase's travel portals run into an issue with this? I'm assuming not, as AA always seems to be able to display the fare paid when I've purchased through those portals.
Thanks! |

sometimes for chase, in my experience with Amex you get the actual fare. AAVacations has special fares when an asterisk appears after the fare code.

But I think AAVacations has switched to a new model of awarding LPs purely based on the cost of the total package, so the fact there's a bulk fare in play is no longer relevant.
