It was only recently that DL decided to start with a mileage ticket discount feature for some DL bank card holders. I suspect we will eventually see the same come to AA bank card holders as has come to some DL bank card holders. These airlines want to keep those hamsters running like lemmings but to and on the hamster wheels.

Arsene Wegner is not I, but I will note with regard to the above response to my words that what has transpired with DL SkyMiles may very well be indicative for AA miles too: devaluing the miles via more dynamic mileage ticket pricing did anything but kill DLs SkyMiles business with Amex; but it also was followed by a big increase in the number of Amex Platinum accounts in the years that followed and by DL+Amex having to spruce up the DL Amex products. In other words, customers seem to have diversified bank card holdings a bit more in response and ended up with more choices than before even outside the DL+Amex, AA+Citi and UA+Chase combinations.
Arguably, AA had already devalued the program enough and was on course to devalue it more that they ran into this LoyaltyPoints scheme counting toward elite status as a way to keep the hamsters running on the program hamster wheel for it.

The updated dynamic pricing is creating many extremes in prices, both high and low. I can find flights to Rome for anywhere from 55k miles to 400k miles. Usually, the lowest prices correlate with availability for SWUs, but not always.
I'm also seeing a lot more confirmable SWUs, especially on the longer domestic routes (PHL - LAX, CLT - LAX, etc.).

Looks like my AA Executive card on its way to me in the mail as I type this will not be renewed a year from now, but I'll spend enough to get the 60,000 LPs and use it for AA purchase. Earn 'em and burn 'em.

One thing not noted anywhere other than my coverage of the topic (https://viewfromthewing.com/american...-need-to-know/) as far a I am aware is that Executive Platinum expanded award availability has been eliminated with this change. That was tied to saver. And AA hasn't followed, say, UA's lead in making better dynamic award pricing available to elites.

Unfortunate but not surprising. A few years ago my brother had a conference in Sydney and used 440,000 miles to bring my SIL in Business Class. Someone noted earlier that you may now have to pay that for a TATL. I'd already decided that Australia was off my list- unfortunate since I'd love to visit Australia/NZ- but both mileage redemptions and the sticker price for Business Class are out of control and I will NOT fly Coach on that route. I'm 70 and life is too short.

Its been a long time since I was able to find a "saver" level award to Europe in Business on AA metal. Best I recall finding in the last 1-2 years is about 78k. Which I am still finding now (using PHL-CLT-MUC as a data point). Award redemptions on AA have been slowly devalued over time. Granted, with this change it seems like the upper limits of redemption costs have gone through the roof. 400k in C to Europe...gtfo.
Similarly, finding AA transatlantic to a partner airline has been non-existent in my searches for quite some time. That still seems to be the case.

I did read enough FT messages to believe it (probably) existed. But I did call quite a couple of times in the earlier years and never had any success - don't think I tried in the last 10-15 years

is it just me.. or does it seems that AA is just going down hill....
with the new loyalty program.... and this new pricing for awards... I just wonder why we
even bother ... with my 1/2 millions miles in my account... thinking of planning a RTW trip.. oh well..
now I can probably get to someplace in Europe ..
anyway I am done...

Maybe AA will do the Delta thing and then say think about how many trips to Vegas you could get when we have something like a flash sale where 2500 miles (or other such low 4 digit number of miles) got a ticket to Vegas.

Welcome to Delta SkyMiles territory. DL’s the industry’s sheriff. But with a sheriff like that, who needs bad guys since the bad guys are the sheriffs.
