Credit Card Announcement Madness

Has anyone else noticed the in-flight AA credit card pitches are becoming longer, more frequent, and increasingly more desperate sounding? I was on a 3-hour domestic flight yesterday and we had to endure a lengthy monologue at full volume around one hour before landing, followed by more pleading and application instruction reminders just after landing. It was quite a nuisance. The same FA then had applications spread out like a clack fan as everyone deplaned. Over the top annoying.

They're channeling the spirit of Billy Mays.

But seriously, it's annoying as ..... IME, it's gotten better and less frequent than it was, but the ones that do it are the ultra pushy snake oil salesman types.

Not sure it's gotten worse, it's been horrendously bad for as long as I can remember. It's clear though based on the changes to the AAdvantage program that their partnership with Citibank is their number 1 priority. Humbly, and I tell this to people all the time, unless you need Loyalty Points because you value status, there is pretty weak arguments for using the credit card. That said, take the bonus and free bags and preferred boarding for having a CC is of significant merit to non-status fliers. I had our family friends grab a card just so they weren't spending $200 each way every time we'd fly on a ski trip.

I have noticed the lies are getting more outrageous, like "this is enough bonus points to fly 2 people round trip to Hawaii in First class."

I would say it's gotten much less frequent. In my last 10 or so flights in January and February, no announcements were made about this, whatsoever. Perhaps that's because most were Eagle flights, but I still haven't heard this announcement in quite some time.

Isn't the issue that the FAs personally get some kind of credit when people apply for the card using the flight-specific code? In other words, they are personally incentivized to market these (I think)

Eagle almost certainly a factor - I never hear the pitches on those flights as well. It's always mainline. And FWIW my track record is quite the opposite, never once did I NOT endure a pitch December through February across a similar number of segments.

"but wait! There's more! Call now!!!"

(and yes, I intended this to be in all caps to appear as shouting as part of the joke, but FT is censoring me)

Yes. And like everything else on AA, there's no enforcement or QA/QC or supervision to ensure that it's done properly.

Imagine if the effort that went in to some of these pitches went into actually doing their contractually obligated job.

I agree the announcement frequency seems to have declined.

I did find "followed by more pleading" funny though.

When I flew JFK to SNA on AA, the CC pitch was 3 minutes long. Also the video on what is going to be playing on the IFE seems long too. I fly Southwest a lot and never have heard a CC pitch. Most of the time I just want to work on my laptop and not be disturbed with offers or pitches.
