HNL - DFW Seats and cost
Just got a notice that my J flt. from HNL - DFW had an equipment change. It went from a 777 to a 787. I'm thinking this is a good thing? (Never been on a 787) Same brand of seats or different?
Seems like there are less J seats available on the 787 compared to the 777?
And as an aside, I don't know when it happened but I booked my HNL-DFW-STL for 87,500 miles and now it is showing 145,000?! Is this a result of dynamic pricing?

There are 20 seats on a 787-8 vs 37 on the 777-200. It will be a nice cozy cabin. Did your seat assignment change? Both the 777-200 and 787-8 has some aircraft in the fleet with alternating front/rear facing business class seats. You won't know if you're on one until a few days before the flight when the equipment is assigned.
87500 is not a horrible redemption for that routing. I think the standard is 57,500 for the sAAver rate, but that's irrelevant next year when all awards are dynamic based on demand, much like ticket prices.

i don't think I've ever seen HNL-DFW with any sAAver awards available for that route.
Since this flight IS next year, would that be the reason for that pricing?
Thanks!

Ah I miss the days of 37,500 for F on AA and UA, even as late as 2016. Those were the days.
The 777 and 789 have the same seats. There is a caveat there as some 772s have the forward/backward seating. Almost everyone prefers the super diamond that is installed on the 789s. (As an aside, the 788 is split between the two seat types as well). In this case, I think the 789 is better to Hawaii as you'll know what seat type you'll have without a doubt and it's a bit quieter than a 772.

In reality, pricing has been dynamic for a long time now. Typically lie flat to Hawaii is 87,500 but can be as high as 145,000 at peak periods and very occasionally as low as 55,000 (give or take) if the flights are not at all busy and are not too far away. Prices change for the exact same flights over time. Book what you can, keep looking, and if you see the same flight at a lower rate, cancel and rebook.
