DFW-OGG-DFW (flights 119 & 116) FC Questions
Have accumulated AA miles and Marriott points and look to use a bunch for a special birthday/anniversary trip next May - Dallas to Maui. Will burn a lot of AA miles to fly FC (Flagship Business) - could go to Europe - but extenuating medical reasons prevent that for now so Hawaii it is. My husband has never been and I went about 40 years ago! Anyway just a few questions for those who have flown this route on the 787-8 aircraft. Seats: we reserved the 2 seats in row 4. According to seatguru and AA map, these are forward-facing which is what we want. Can anyone confirm this for me as we do not want rear-facing seats. Meals: outbound flight departs DFW at 8:30AM and says breakfast. Is that all we will get for this 7 hour flight? The return flight departs at 6:30PM and is an overnight flight and says dinner. Other: AA.com says Flagship service. Is it worth it to get to DFW early to use Flagship Lounge? I guess we'd get breakfast 2x? In flight: I saw a few posts about no blankets or pillows? Is this pretty common? How are you supposed to sleep? Also do you get the Bose headphones on these flights? Any possibility of aircraft change, delays or cancellations on these routes? We have not been on this long a flight in quite a few years (mostly DFW-LGA, DFW-FLL or DFW-SEA) and want to be as prepared and comfortable as possible both ways. Any tips appreciated. Thanks much.

Ive flown this route several times (OGG-DFW-BWI RT). They do provide a blanket and pillow in business. I usually have my own headphones but I believe they give you a set for the flight as well. I've only left DFW around the 11am flight for which they give lunch and then a snack prior to arrival. For the overnight leg its dinner and then a fruit/yogurt breakfast. I would recommend preordering your meal, they usually have a filet for the evening flight.
Ive only been in the Flagship first lounge once during a connection and, unfortunately I dont remember it to memorable (arrived from OGG around 7am so had a couple hours between my connection).

The Flagship Lounge is "nice", but for an early morning flight and what will be an already very long day of travel there's absolutely no reason to get to DFW any earlier than you normally would to use it.
For an evening flight to Europe, sure, I might arrive an hour earlier or so to have time for a drink and a snack, but for an 8:30am departure, no way.

Interms of seating Seatguru is not and has not been updated for a long time and the information is completely wrong. Use this for up to date seating info.

Always possibility of aircraft swap. But would be to another wide body aircraft on this route. (Our last flight switched from a 787-9 to a 777-2 after booking) They switched our seats also so be sure to keep checking periodically on your own.
Flight times can change also. AA usually will notify, but again check yourself prior to departure.
Delays can happen as with any flight. Cancellations on this route rare.
Since DFW Hawaii non stops switched to “Flagship Business”, access to Flagship Lounge is a nice perk.
On board you’ll find head sets (not Bose brand anymore), comforter, pillow, water, amenity kit, menu, waiting at your seat.
Pre flight OJ, Mimosas or sparkling wine offered.
We’ve only taken the later “lunch” flight. And yes, dinner on return red eye.
Warmed nuts and beverage service, salad and appetizer served and then cleared, entree served, dessert choice of custom sundaes or fruit and cheese.
Pre arrival snack offered out bound. Continental breakfast before landing on return red eye.
We’ve flown the DFW Hawaii non stops for many years and have found with the upgrade to “Flagship Business” service levels on these routes has improved. And the prices increased. Sigh.

good article
This might help I prefer the rear facing for many of the reasons mention when Traveling with DW.Review: American Airlines Business Class 787 Dreamliner (travelingformiles.com)
You could get two breakfasts if you go before but usually it is beneficial if you want to eat then sleep on plane but going to maui in the daytime means there probably isn't much benefit and I wouldn't go extra early for it. They probably will have a snack table set up or offer some later in flight. The return should have dinner and then a continental breakfast before landing. I'd opt for the 777 later flight if I had a choice. I haven't been to hawaii since 2014 and they had pillow on that one. According the the Americansite Flagship Business International − Travel information − American Airlines (aa.com) hawaii should get the amenities as intl business.
Once they lock in the schedule for May(not sure if they have done that yet) there shouldn't be an equipment change unless it is a last minute mechanical and cancellations or delay can occur due to weather in Dallas in May but usually the T storms move through fairly quickly and the long hauls wait it out and go.
enjoy your trip

I actually came across that review late yesterday. Honestly not crazy about the angled seats for the 2 people traveling together in the center in either the forward-or-rear facing seats but I am definitely have some Type A spatial issues and know rear-facing would bug me although my more zen husband would likely be ok.

If you are by chance in the 2 seat section (1-21) or even if not can you let me know if the privacy divider can be put down. I am hoping AA changed this from the original locked position so my husband and I can talk to each other! Thanks.
