Domestic Premium Economy - DFW to OGG on 787
I am looking at various options on a number of airlines (mainly Delta and AA) to get from JFK to OGG over the holidays. Many premium cabins are showing sold out. I do see some options to connect through DFW or PHX for 125K AAdmirals miles each way on American. I also see various options for flights that connect through Dallas and on through OGG on the 787 in Premium Economy for fewer miles. How is premium economy service on these flights? I would imagine it could be a comfortable ride for a couple in terms of pure seating, but more interested in food and beverage details

The DFW-Hawaii flights are treated like any other long haul widebody flight. So if you are getting ticketed in Premium Economy, you should get all the published benefits including enhanced meal service and other amenities.

Is the PHX-OGG flight on a widebody also selling premium economy as a separate service or is it being sold as main cabin extra? The west coast to Hawaii flights dont typically offer the enhanced services.

I believe food and beverage is more in line with Coach than Business. A wrap or sandwich instead of the hot meal available in Business/First. Alcohol is free but don’t expect frequent service unless you keep asking. Service is the same as coach. It’s most definitely inferior to Premium Economy on an international flight. The seat is the main difference on the Hawaii routes. International Premium Economy does give you better food options, but not the Hawaii routes.

Incorrect. Although AA sells Premium Economy as a separate class of service on DFW HNL/OGG flights, the meal service is nothing like on international PE. Both Main and PE on these Hawaiian flights will receive a tiny salad, equally tiny piece of cake (which you can literally eat in one bite), and a cold turkey sandwich on AA whilst on DL and UA flights with a proper PE cabin get hot meals.

Or is there a footnote I'm missing that downgrades the PE service on only the DFW-HI flights where PE is sold as a separate service level?

We flew HNL-DFW in PE a couple of weeks ago. Meal service was a single tray with a sandwich— which I will say was really good. We were on the late flight so I’m not sure if that had something to do with it or not but I wouldn’t exactly call a sandwich “premium.”

it may be because the eastbound flights are redeyes. But then again, so are TA flights leaving from East coast cities around the same local time as the Hawaiian departures to DFW.

Im not sure but that would make sense. Honestly, I was happy for a which and light meal service as it allowed me to get some decent sleep (for a less than 7 hour red eye).

So you're saying that they are advertising and marketing Premium Economy amenities, including the premium dining options, are not included on the long haul wide body flights from DFW to Hawaii that are marketed as Flagship flights?

AA used to have a footnote about PE flights to Hawaii and Alaska having a different service but seems like it was removed.

I thought i remembered that notation. Would be nice to hear a recent experience (like since late November) on the current PE service levels. Im taking UA PE ORD-HNL and AA HNL-DFW in a few months. Maybe a moot question for me if my waitlisted upgrades on each leg clear.

On international PE, service is much better consisting of hot meals served on proper china.

We just flew OGG-DFW (then continued on back to the east coast) on 11/29. AA6, 787-9, sat in PE seat 9D w/ the leg rest. Meal consisted of a cold turkey sandwich, salad, cake, and another snack in a cardboard box. Amenity kit, blanket, and pillow were on the seat.

I was wondering how you liked your seat? Im trying to choose between 9D or 11L (window). Was 9D noisy because of the lavatory being right there? Do Economy passengers use the lav/congregate there? Thanks
