Seat map discrepancy

I'm on flt 8 HNL - DFW on May 7.
When I go to look at how many seats have been taken I get the following seat map.

But when I look at seats I can change to through my reservation I get this one.

What's the deal or is it just AA being AA?

No idea, I just did a dummy booking for that flight and when I click on "view seats" at aa.com it matches the lower seatmap.

The first seat map looks like a 321 while the second seat map looks like a 772 (up to row 6). Possibly AA is upgauging the a/c type?

Correct. If you want to actually book a seat or change your existing seat, it shows you the "real occupancy map", but if you are just perusing what's available, it shows the wrong occupancy map.

It's definitely not an a321. The top right seat number says 1L, which can only be an AA 772, 788 or 789 (the 77W right side is row J)

It looks like a 788 seat map on the top and a 772 one on the bottom. Might just be a glitch where it hasn't updated to the correct metal.

Possibly, but I've been seeing this issue for a few weeks now.

I don't think AA has ever sent 788s to Hawaii; but they have consistently deployed 772s and 789s and a few times even 77Ws (selling both F and J cabins as Flagship Business)

How are you looking to just see what's available? I know this functionality used to be there but no idea how to find it now.

The page is gone, but the service still exists. Just change the data on this URL and it works
https://www.aa.com/seats/view?flight...ionAirport=DFW

Yea, that page pulls up the same map you can see when doing a dummy booking, it matches the bottom map in the OP's post. I'm curious where the OP was looking to get the top map.

This is correct, at least from a seat map perspective.

They do occasionally from PHX.

The OP is going through DFW, not PHX, and never seen AA sending 788s from DFW to any Hawaiian market. Regardless, my previous comment was specific to DFW HNL/OGG which are markets sold as Flagship Business; PHX gets no love and thus treated as standard domestic F
