Cruise line Bookings

Do you get loyalty points and miles if the cruise line (Regent Seven Seas) books your flight? Business class on AA DFW to AKL.
I found this but what does that mean?

Earning AAdvantage® miles and Loyalty Points

Some fares (such as bulk or consolidator fares) earn AAdvantage® miles at a modified rate based on a percentage of the distance flown as determined by the booking code.*

You’ll earn Loyalty Points toward AAdvantage® status for each AAdvantage® base mile earned on eligible flights, including cabin of service and status mileage bonuses.

Special fares are often bought through a specialized agent, third party or as part of a package including air transportation and lodging.

These include:
  • Bulk fares
  • Cruise fares
  • Consolidator fares
  • Discounted or inclusive tour packages
  • Vacation packages, including select American Airlines Vacations® packages. For Vacations, special fares are marked with an asterisk (*) after the booking code in the aavacations.com booking path.
  • Other tickets where the fare isn't disclosed, excluding bookings made through priceline.com or hotwire.com where the carrier isn't disclosed before buying
*Distance flown refers to the calculated distance between the origin and destination, as determined by American in its sole discretion, regardless of the actual distance traveled on any individual flight.

Not a great answer but it depends on how they book the trip for you. I'd say to expect no miles (check your booking code to see) but be add your AA number anyway. You might be pleasantly surprised.

Normally, I take the non-use credit and book my own air, usually with points.

Non use was 3500 cheapest publish fare was 5200 or 480K miles. So I took the cruise booking - restricted business which I think is the (R) fare - not sure

  • BALCONY BONUS: 2 ADDITIONAL AADVANTAGE MILES PER $1 SPENT

    From: American Airlines Cruises

    Date: July 31, 2021
You have qualified to receive 2 additional miles per $1 spent on the total price of your cruise, found on this invoice, booked between 07/01/2021 and 07/31/2021 departing on or before 12/31/2023. AAdvantage number must be provided prior to embarkation for mileage offer to be fulfilled. Miles are posted to member's account 6-8 weeks after the cruise has been completed. Miles earned are additive to existing base AAdvantage member and AAdvantage Cardmember bonus offers. AAdvantage members booking a balcony or suite earn a total of 3 miles per $ 1 dollar spent, up to 30,000 miles; AAdvantage Cardmembers using their eligible AAdvantage credit card to book a balcony or suite earn a total of 4 miles per $1 spent, up to 40,000 miles. New bookings only. Miles are per stateroom and are awarded to only one passenger per cruise booking. Cruises must be paid in U.S. currency. Additional restrictions may apply; ask your agent for details.
So, in summary, you will get AA miles based on the amount spent, plus a cardholder bonus (if you have an AA card), plus a cabin category bonus (for balcony, suite, etc.). You will also get one loyalty point for each dollar spent. HOWEVER, you will not get loyalty points for the flights unless you book and pay for them yourself. For example, our round trip business DFW-CDG did not earn loyalty points based on my EXP status. All I received was the 1 loyalty point per dollar spent on the flight.

I understand but I was just referring to the cruise line booked airfare - I used my amex centurion for the cruise itself - better perks and OBC.

In the past, when I have used cruiseline air, yes I've gotten miles, frequent flyer benefits, etc but it really does depend on what class they use to book the tickets.

My experience (albeit pre LP) has been that cruise line tickets have earned miles according to the Special Fares guidelines based on booking code.
