Hacked intercoms on flights?

I just came across this story about a bunch of strange occurrences on AA flights (seems mostly on 737s) where there are phantom calls between the cockpit and flight attendants, and strange noises like prank calls coming over the PA. There's even video of it. Anyone experience it? What could be going on?

I would think the intercom is a closed air gapped system. I bet who ever has done this gets caught

There's even video a passenger on one of these flights took, super weird:

When I see stories like this, I always wonder why some passengers cant just sit their ... in a seat and be happy they got to their destination safely and hopefully ontime.

Honestly, I'm inclined to think this is a mechanical issue. I've seen some weird stuff come out of speakers when amplifiers fail.

If the inflight system had a DRAM DAC I could see this happening. Why would they have delay? To prevent feedback audio like they do at the departure gates of all airports. But I do not think they have delays on aircraft for safety reasons. They could have a prerecorded announcement system that was triggered.

Uncontrolled Moaning and Grunting Over PA System

If your first thought was that you don’t belong on Flyertalk. :D Apparently loud moaning has been heard over the PA system on some AA flights, described by one passenger as “somewhere between an orgasm and vomiting.” No source has been found, and AA is basically saying “this can’t happen. Our systems are secure.” More news at 11.

AA is saying it's a mechAAnical issue, but doesn't explain why it's happened on multiple flights.

On my recent AA flight, someone had this message ringtone on their phones, which could be heard repeatedly during final approach and landing, and I thought that this was the intercom prankster, lol...
