I didn’t think BOS-YHZ was that odd considering that there is competition on the route from AC. (Even WS flew the route seasonally at one point)

We ended up rerouted onto that AC flight...DH8 which wasn't awful.

I've always found that MDT-BOS flight interesting - I used to live north of MDT and frequently traveled to Massachusetts and Maine. It's a pretty long and annoying drive, and I think Harrisburg is just far enough that a flight makes sense over driving or Amtrak. The fares were always sky-high when I checked them (pre-Covid), so clearly the demand was there for business travel.

They still fly RDU-LHR....lots of BioTech and Pharma in the Triangle fund this route. They also fly SEA-LHR and probably get some feeder traffic from the tie-up with Alaska.

Charging extremely high fares on a lot of very short flights from BOS/PHL/PIT is a great way to produce staggeringly high unadjusted yields. Of course, stage length adjusting changes the conclusion a bit. |

I was going to mention some of the BOS routes, but I view BOS as a focus city on par with Austin (not a hub, but not insignificant).
In addition to what’s been listed, there’s SYR, ROC, IND, YYZ, CUN, MBJ, Punta Cana (all Saturday’s) and probably a few others I’m missing. I’ve done the MDT flight once (versus connecting in PHL to UNV) and will be on the SYR flight next week. Those late day 145 flights seem to habitually delayed, but still better than driving on I-90 for several hours. |
