Why new PE seats. The current ones are fine ( a little stiff-for my taste )

Bingo. Doors are just like any "enhancement" that AA trots out, a little window dressing and they take something more important away.

The new doored suites on many airlines are step backwards in space and comfort from their previous seats.
Confort is an entirely different issue. I'm addressing the additional privacy offered.

I don't know what substandard seats with doors you're flying, but please, tell us, which doored configuration allows you an equally clear view of fellow passengers across that cabin equal to seats without them? ANA? Qatar? I think it'll be quite a revelation when you reveal which config allows you as clear a view at your fellow passengers that closed door cabins do. To claim there's no more privacy with doors is absurd on its face, despite the peanut gallery, many of whom are chiming in without apparently ever experiencing the product.

I'm 6' 3" and the view of fellow passengers across the cabin is significantly hindered by the doors, sitting or standing, what are you, 6' 8" and flying a mystery carrier with clear doors?

I agree - when I am in Qsuites I cannot see a single other person from my seat with the door closed. I am not sure how that is not more private than most seats.

Agree 100%. Plus if you are travelling with 2 or 4, you can choose the center seats and have a private suite to yourself (and not see anyone else with the door closed). The Q-suite for four was the best seating we have ever had as a family.

In a reverse herringbone, you can't see anything while sitting either. You can see the side of someone's seat shell, but that's about it. Standing up, both offer the same lack of protection.

QR is a marketing powerhouse..it's not as bad as EK, where they somehow convinced a large number of people that 2-3-2 angle flats are industry leading, but it's still a spin machine.

Hopefully AA PE pitch with these seats will be more generous than DL's tight domestic F pitch.

So going forward all transcon Business Class has A321T First Class level seats? I think that's pretty good news!

I’d much rather have F than extra J with pointless doors.

Despite having already heard rumours to this effect, it’s a disappointment to read.

XLR

Does anybody know how many total seats will be on this configuration?

Weird how they are quiet on how they will fly the transcons. I could imagine a few wide bodies doing LAX-JFK but not BOS or SFO. So that leaves either XLRs on JFK-SFO or a reconfigured a321 with presumably the new suites designed for transcon (so swapping one sub fleet for another?). I wonder if they reconfigure a normal a321 non XLR with these new suites what they config will be (20 new J suite seat, no PE and MCE+Y? I wonder if they will mix the XLR and reconfigured a321 fleets or keep the XLR for thin Int’l and just have a new dedicated sub fleet with lie flats for the transcon? The transcon upgrades might get hard if they lose 10 lie flats seats and a lot more Y seats…

As for "anyone can look over", I've never encountered that creepy behavior, but it would take a degree of effort that they'd come to regret, unless it was an FA.

Less concerned about privacy than being bumped by a cart or passenger of size squeezing down the aisle.

Yes, but there are now only 20 J seats, as opposed to 20 J seats and 10 F seats. I guess the addition of PE is some consolation, but it is a reduction of 10 lie-flats overall.

And this happens in any of AA's widebody business or first class?

The upcharge for PY is more about avoiding the misery of Y. A lot of people, myself included, will pay a lot to escape the torture of 9-abreast Y on a 787 or 10-abreast Y on a 777. These are very long flights, after all.

So the new J seat is just reverse herringbone with a door? What's innovative about that? It seems like other airlines are already ahead of this "new" product from AA. Look at ANA. Aside from the fact that their new seat is so hard that it feels like a park bench, it really is an impressive new design with a lot of space and privacy. (Now if someone would just tweak the seat padding to make it comfortable, it would be the best J seat in the sky.)
