I just don't get the current trend of a door on the J seats. What's the point? Anyone standing up can simply look over them. If you are sitting down, you're usually reclined enough except for maybe takeoff/landing to not be able to see or be seen unless you sit up and make an effort.
Just seems like another useless trend to me.

Also, I can already see the seat is similar to other airlines where I have no room for my feet or bending my knees such that my shins are always banging against the ceiling of the foot well.

I also don't care about the doors. Just seems like an unnecessary part to break.
Don't care for the head wings on the premium economy seats either. But, I don't quite get the premium economy thing anyways -- far too much upcharge for a seat that I still can't sleep in.
I do like the J capacity on the new 789 and retrofitted 777. The J-light 787s have been such a shame. But, I wish they'd just use the current J product instead of this 'suite' (i'd call it a jr suite
).
To me, the parts that fit the worse on flights is shoulders and hips. Don't mind my shoulders (or hips) being snug when I am upright, but when laying down, what makes it hard to be comfortable is that space where the hips are between the seat and the tray table under the tv. Can't tell for sure from these photos, but doesn't look like it's any better than the current 777 J products AA flies.

It's nonsense to suggest doors don't offer additional privacy.
Simply because doors don't offer total privacy doesn't mean they aren't providing more privacy.
I'm over 6' and it's absurd to suggest the view of other passengers isn't significantly reduced, even when walking up and down aisles, especially during sleeping hours when most doors are closed.
Think they're useless don't close yours, but many passengers obviously appreciate them.
Simply because doors don't offer total privacy doesn't mean they aren't providing more privacy.

The new doored suites on many airlines are step backwards in space and comfort from their previous seats.

Looks like they’re using the same product on the 789s that QR uses for their “business suite” 789 product. For me, this is pretty disappointing. I’ve flown this product a few times and while it has a ton of bells and whistles, the seat is really tight (especially around the shoulders) and the foot box is pretty small. I’d take the super diamond and definitely the current 77W J product over this (let alone Apex or qsuites). So unless AA does some serious customization to this, to me it’s kinda a downgrade.

Im 5’ 10” and have size 11 feet and this product was really tight for me and pretty uncomfortable so much so I couldnt sleep on the few segments I’ve flown this product. So I’m assuming it will be pretty rough for you as well. It is def tighter than the super diamond, a product I’ve been easily able to sleep on.

We wish. Qsuite is a terrific product, a contender for best business class in the sky. This is the Adient Ascent product, which QR uses on their 789 as Business Suite. It's awful. Cramped, no storage, with walls and door too low to provide any privacy. It looks like a Qsuite in photos, but in reality is nothing like Qsuite.

Yes, but you might want to do it laying down with a blanket over you, to avoid flashing everyone. The Adient Ascent product has very low walls.
