Same day complementary change questions for Platinum Pro

For the complementary same day change on AA as a Platinum Pro or Executive Platinum:

- Can you do this on Basic Economy fares?
- Website says you can start 24 hours before your flight. If you have a 6 am flight on Monday, I assume you can start looking Sunday at 6 am. Question is will all flights on Monday show up at 6 am the day before, or is only flights within 24 hours (so for example, Monday afternoon flights not show up right away)?
- Website say companions on same itinerary can change too. Any limit on number of companions?

Thanks in advance. There are some really cheap 6 am flights but hoping to swap to something later that doesn't require a 330 am wake up call.

Yes, all flights would show up but not all will have option to standby. For those with confirmed standby availability ($75 per ticket), it will show the option. You can change all companions traveling with you as well. There's no limit for Plat Pro/Exec Plat. For Gold/Plat, it's up to 8 companions.

PHL, You write no limits on companions for same day change?! Are you sure? I think you have a limit of number of people in one PNR.

I think precovid it would have to be 24 hours before the new flight.

Their page with details about SDFC delineates that Exec Plat and Plat Pro can change themselves and "companions", but they specifically say that a Gold or Plat can only change up to 8 companions.

Complimentary change / standby

AAdvantage Executive Platinum® and AAdvantage Platinum Pro® status (and companions in same reservation)
AAdvantage Platinum® and AAdvantage Gold® status (and up to 8 companions in same reservation)

So, I guess if anyone has more than 8 companions to upgrade and they are a Plat Pro/Exec Plat, let us know if you are able to change >8 companions in your rez. On that note, how often or practical is it to have 8+ people in the same PNR?

In order to have > 9 persons in a booking, it would need to be a group booking. There is no defined limit to number of passengers in a group booking ( though is limited by booking class availability ). With group bookings I have had > 50 people in one booking

Definitely practical to have 10+ people in a booking and great to get the benefits of group fares

I'm EXP - I have a flight booked on a Tuesday 9/27 DEN-DFW-TUL in the PM, but just found out I need to be there much earlier. The 6 am from DEN and connecting flight are both about 66% empty in both cabins. What are the chances of catching that one on a SDC, and does the SDC for EXP allow for last seat availability?

Since you are looking to move up to a 6am flight from a later day flight, the challenge is that you will not be able to check until T minus 24 hours of your scheduled flight. So if your flight is at 7pm, for example, you can't check until 7pm the day before. At that point, there may be fewer seats available on the 6am flight that leaves only 11 hours later. As an EXP, you would have priority over non EXPs (except CK) who are standing by for a SDFC. Ideally you would hope to see the option to confirm the seat when you do the SDFC process in app/web site so you don't have to fret over whether you'll be waiting at the gate.

Not true. Two days ago I had a 8pm departure flight and both on the app and website, flights popped up when it was 24 hours, ie at 8am the day before the ability to do sdfc for the 8am flight on day of departure was available. Ie 36 hours before my scheduled flight...

No no no. This is wrong. It’s /4 hours from the flight u want to take.

I guess what their web site publishes versus what happens in reality is not the same. Wouldn't be the first time.

Starting 24 hours before departure, go to your trips online or in the app, or stop by an airport ticket counter to request a change and pay the fee, if applicable.

Or maybe I was interpreting this to mean 24 hours before YOUR scheduled flight versus 24 hours before the earlier flight you want to get on. I've done SDFC but it's always been much closer to my departure where I was making a last minute change well within the 24 hour period.

I read the AA page as unlimited for Pro/EXP but limited to 8 standby for Gold/Plat .

In my (limited) experience it's 24 hours before the flight you want to change to.
