AA Tight Connection (25 minutes) at AUS and unable to change (updated: changed)
got an email overnight, flight schedule change.
with new times, my wife and kids connection time is now a whopping 25 minutes.
No rebooking options or anything. Just this is your new flight times.
I call them, certainly 25 minutes is not enough time to get from one plane to another. They usually stop boarding 15 mins before a flight leaves.
My wife and two littles dragging stuff, impossible not going to happen.
AA says sorry, if you WANT to change that's $982 in difference in fare.
I'm like really? but you changed the schedule to shrink the connection time by more than half.
Sorry that's a "valid connection time" they tell me.
Well what isn't? If you think 25 mins is Ok when is it not OK? 15 mins? 10?
I keep saying I'm going to be done with these people and go back to Delta, but living in their hub makes it so annoying.

25 min is enough time at AUS if the inbound is on-time. MCT AA to AA domestic to domestic is 25 min. That said, I suspect if you HUCA, you'll get an agent who will make a change for you.

AUS is one of the few AA "hubs" where this is totally doable. At most you will have to walk 4-5 gates but most likely less.
It just doesn't leave any room for error if your arriving flight is late - that's the issue.

Where people are seeing that 25m is a legal connection? What I see on EF says the MCT D-D is 30m. It's true that it's less than a 5m walk between the furthest gates used by AA but you've only got 10m to get off the plane before the connecting gate is closed. It might work if you're in FC but if you're in coach you're going to spend longer than 25m in Austin. We have a great AC though

Simply put, the agent doesn't know what he/she is doing. Try with a different agent or via Twitter and have your new flights chosen in advance.
