Finding AA PNR from BA booking reference number
Hello - I'm sure this has been addressed here many times before, but I've searched the forum and can't find the answer (mods, feel free to move this to an existing thread if relevant). I just booked a flight on AA using Avios. I have the BA reference number, but obviously would like to have the AA record locator to manage the reservation on the AA website.
The pandemic has made me rusty, this is probably the first time in four years I've used Avios to book a flight on AA. I recall some old hacks about using the Qantas or Royal Jordanian websites to find the AA record locator - I've tried both but not seeing the number. Most travel blogs that come up in Google searches say you can enter the BA number into the "record locator" field of the "Manage Trips/Check In" section of the AA website, but I just get errors when doing so. Any way to find this information without having to resort to calling AA? Thanks... |

In my view the easiest option is to go to the BA website, go to MMB, ask to select/change seats, select the AA operated flights. BA will then tell you it needs to take you to the AA website and asks for your authorisation, but in doing so, at the bottom of the screen, they will tell you what the AA booking reference is and you can just write it down.
Of course, you can also call BA or call AA. Both will be able to tell you based on the info you have (BA reference, passenger name and in the case of AA flight) |

Officially what you are trying to do is not allowed, so you may encounter resistance from agents to change your number. You can try asking them to just remove your number which would open it back up for you to add your AA FF#, but the best way is to just pick the option that you are booking for someone else when making the award reservation on BA’s website. For next time.
Also, to the subject of this thread/OP, I’ve always been able to access the reservation using the BA record locator or ticket number. |

Sorry to resurrect this thread, but does anyone know how to make AA recognize my AAdvantage number and status for a trip booked with BA since it already has my Avios number attached? I can pull up the itinerary on AA and add my KTN, but the box for frequent flyer details isn't editable and already contains my BA info. I'm therefore not seeing it in "My Trips" and unable to select seats for free with Platinum status. Is that how it works or is there a way around this? Thanks!

I always send AA a DM on Twitter - with my name, AA flight #, and Aadvantage #. I ask them to please change the frequent flyer account info from BA to AA. It's always done within a couple of hours and then I can see the flights on my AA account and access the better seat selection.

The BA seat change option worked like a charm - thank you!
When I try to select seats I'm getting an error suggesting it's because my booking might have been made more than 48hrs ago (it wasn't). Any other ideas to get my AA pnr so I can select seats? |
