Not so funny Onion satire about AA flying into mountains

I doubt the author of this Onion piece has a clue about AA 965 that actually did crash into a mountain in 1995.

While I normally get a chuckle out of satirical Onion stories, this one seems to hit all the wrong notes.

I can only think of one way that article could have been more cringeworthy... and I'm not even going to say it...

The authors were careful not to promise the people who "upgrade to first class or business class" a PDB because no one would believe it.

A better version of this article would have been "Copying DL yet again - AA directs every leg through Fort Worth as it shutters LAX, PHL hubs amid pilot shortage"

Being funny doesn't pay the bills. But the millions of clicks that article will get from this thread will let Onion-baby get a new pair of shoes.

This really is cringeworthy. Satire doesn't mean something that would presumably kill people. I mean it's along the lines of when I think it was Howard Stern called the reservations line at Air Florida after that tragedy and asked to book a one way ticket to the 14th street bridge.

That's been misreported over the years. The actual call him calling and asking Air Florida if the 14th Street bridge was going to be a regular stop from now on. When interviewed about it in later (his more calmer) years, he said his call was to illustrate his outrage that the plane even was cleared to take off in those conditions.

I'm all for dry and satirical humor but this is not funny at all and blatantly offensive. Didn't a JL 742 do exactly this 37 years ago?

The horrible tragedy in West Virginia with the college football team is another.

The Orion piece is not at all satirical or funny. Not even "dark humor". It's just tasteless.
