AAdvantage Status

I am about to qualify for Platinum Pro status in the next week. How soon does it take effect and will it end at the end of this year or will it qualify me through 2023?

Qualification and membership year period

The status qualification year starts on March 1 and runs through the last day of February.
  • For example, in 2023, your counter will restart on March 1, 2023, and run through February 29, 2024.
  • The membership year (when your status is valid) takes effect the date you qualify, or April 1 (whichever comes first) and will be valid through March 31.
Purchases made with your AAdvantageŽ credit card will count based on the date the activity posts to your AAdvantageŽ account. All other flight and partner transactions will count based on the activity date of the flight or other transaction.

Thanks. Just to clarify, if I qualify now, my status ends on March 31, 2023. So between March 31st 2023 and whenever I accrue enough points to requalify I will revert to my current Lifetime Platinum status, correct. In effect, no one has status effective April 1st of each year until they requalify, which could take some time ???

I'm not sure - my current status is good through Mar 31, 2024, not 2023. I wonder if that's due to the multiple extensions due to the pandemic.

No, if you qualify now, it's valid to 3/31/24 and starting 3/1/23, you are earning status for after 3/31/24 into 2025.

So you qualify within the current membership year and the new status is active for all of the next membership year. That's how it used to be before the LP changes.

I was also thinking of the same thing. The wording here is very unclear.

I think the correct interpretation is that the April 1 of membership year refers to the same year as the February in the status qualification year. And the end of the membership year is on March 31 of the subsequent year.

So status qualification year starts on March 1 (of year 1) and runs through the last day of February (year 2)
Membership year takes effect the date you qualify (any time from year 1 to February 29 of year 2) or by April 1 (late credits?) of year 2 and valid until March 31 of year 3.

I re-qualified for EXP with a flight yesterday evening, and this morning my account showed my status valid through 3/31/2024.

If I spend over $200,000 on my AAdvantaage Citicard will I qualify for EXP without flying any paid segments?

You will be EXP, though the most valuable EXP benefits (e.g. SWUs) require also having 30 qualifying segments.

So the benefits depend upon how you get the status? Where can I learn about the benefits of EXP w/credit card vs. EXP with segments? (e.g. an easy to read comparison). Thanks !

Yes, but you wont get the elite extra goodies, you need 30 segments for those.

No, you get EXP with 200,000 LP, period. That gets all the EXP benefits like bags, seats, comp 500-mile upgrades, oneworld lounges.

In addition, you get to choose rewards (such as SWUs) at 125,000, 200,000, and various subsequent tiers -- but you can't choose any of those until you've flown 30 segments. These are called Loyalty Choice Rewards and you can read about them here: https://www.aa.com/i18n/aadvantage-p...KT|LNK||Choice. Once you hit the 30 segments you will then be able to choose all the rewards you would have earned if you'd already had the 30 segments. There is no incentive for going beyond 750,000 LP (other than higher placement on the upgrade list).

You can read about the program more generally here: https://exploreamerican.com/newaadvantage/
