Ok, I found your flight, EWR-MUC-CAI with United lie flat for $1,421, with 13-hour layover in MUC, so you skip the last leg and likely you get your luggage with you easily with the 13-hour layover...(but you should double check that)....

Even better, lie-flat United IAH-MUC return in J for $2,250, with a quick side trip in J to CAI....You can play with the dates...Available continuously...
