Loyalty Points Calculation App Now Available
This is pretty cool. Especially for comparing an AA vs BA tickets to maximize LPs.
https://lpcalculator.com/#/landing https://thepointsguy.com/news/americ...ty-points-app/ Like most American Airlines frequent flyers, Razzak Memon’s interest was piqued when he learned last fall about the carrier switching its AAdvantage program to a new Loyalty Points currency. An entirely new point-awarding system was big news to Memon, considering he flies some 250,000 miles every year and is a member of American’s most prestigious elite status designation. So he set out on a mission to understand and help other travelers decode the new Loyalty Points system through which AAdvantage members now earn status through a combination of spending on flights, with co-branded credit cards, and through the loyalty program’s eShopping portal. It’s one thing to do your homework. Memon, though, had the means to do a whole lot more than that. As the owner of two technology companies, he had a web development team at his disposal as he set out to uncover his – and others’ – points-earning potential when booking a Oneworld flight. That mission has now taken shape as a new internet-based application called the Loyalty Points Calculator. |
How do you find the base fare for each leg of your itinerary? I can only find total ticket base with taxes and fees itemized. I have SAN-PHL on AA, PHL-DOH on AA code share Qatar, then DOH-BKK on Qatar no code-share. I'm not clear on how to separate out the fare based AA calcs and the miles based QR calcs.

Its been super useful, I've used it for the last couple of months or so.
Is the creator on FT? |

Is the creator on FT? Am I missing some killer feature here? |

I don't understand why this is useful. If I have to enter the base fare for an AA flight, isn't this a lot more work than just multiplying by 11 (using a calculator for those who are arithmetically challenged?)

Definitely makes me regret choosing an AS itinerary over an AA itinerary for a west coast trip, if only because of the LP difference I calculated on this site. I think the difference in service/experience will make up for it, and it shouldn't keep me from hitting Gold again this year, but still...

Partner airlines, special fares. AA alone isn't particularly complex, but it makes life much easier as compared to pulling up the partner airline table.

That makes sense. I was confused too by why this matters when AA tells you when you book exactly how many LPs you are getting!
i dont understand the need for same reason you said, and because it only tells you about 20% of the world of earning LPs. I assume the website doesnt calculate that bc it'd be WAYY more programming and it's all over the board. |

and the fact the tool is for flying only...doesn't factor in the WAYYY more complicated world of non-flying LPs from hotels, online shopping, dining, etc.

For special fares and partners, you can definitely do the math, but it's easier to just punch it in and get the number as opposed to pulling up each partner's posting page and checking. I find value. I'm glad that it was made. |

Those are much more straightforward though. Like Motley Fool says 7400 LP, you get 7400 LP. As Sephora offers 4 points per dollar, you get 4xyour spend in LP (slightly off due to taxes and stuff, but it would be more work to key all this in someplace just to basically get 4x your spend).

I'm glad that it was made. I just wish there was a one-stop location that could calculate your LPs or had room for other non-flying methods, straightforward as they may be or not, so you could truly calculate ALL your LPs. As it is now, this ain't it, but happy for others who'll use it to figure out their flying. |

That would be a tough one to do. For example, Macy's has a 2 LP per dollar right now, and that may change. They'd need to be an API to the eshopping portal to pull the transactions to be able to do this.
Given AA's belligerence towards Award Wallet, I doubt they'd be open to this. Which is why the calculator website is a disAAppointment for me. No value to me since I don't do tons of partner flights |
