JD Power Ranks AA 9th for Economy Passengers

Among others, AA ranked below Allegiant and Spirit in US airplane passenger satisfaction --ouch. AA also ranked only 4th in PE and 6th in Business--not a good showing. https://www.cnn.com/travel/article/j...lts/index.html

Do you think AA management honestly cares about surveys like these?

bchandler02 May 11, 2022 11:47 am

All the jokes about AA being worse than Spirit have suddenly become real. How sad.
Economy:
#4 - Allegiant
#8 - Spirit
#9 - American (out of 11)

First:
#6 - American (out of 6)

Enough said.

I guess "the schedule is the product" strategy may not be working out so well.

At least things are looking up, you can now buy Pringles in Y on a 6.5 hour PHX-HNL flight!

JetBlue has premium economy?

wrp96 May 11, 2022 12:25 pm

I'm surprised it's that high.

That's just CNN being lousy at their job. The actual ratings from JD Power are for North America. https://www.jdpower.com/business/pre...sfaction-study

Aeromexico, Interjet, Volaris etc. Aren't part of their survey methodology. See here : https://hub.jdpower.com/travel-hospi...hsfp=538509823

This shows the danger of taking conclusions out of surveys and studies without reading the whole methodology.

If someone read the CNN article alone, they'd make all kinds of half informed conclusions.

Not a defense of American in any way, but these are customer satisfaction ratings where responders factor price into their rating. People flying Allegiant and Spirit 1) generally know what they are getting for the price they pay and 2) possibly get non-stops no one else provides (on Allegiant especially). Meanwhile in Y on American, you're getting basically the same awful seats/legrooms/lack of service, but you're paying AA prices for it. In a way, these ratings are *perception of value* and not necessarily a differentiator related to experience.

It's why the Hilton Garden inn in [some town] can have a higher TripAdvisor traveler rating than the Four Seasons or the JR Marriott. The latter are certainly nicer, but they are also more expensive and America loves a value.

(AA Y is awful BTW).

I presume they are counting the 'Even More Space' extra legroom seats as PE. (Probably counting MCE as PE too)
